Regarding Bangladesh, the Pakistani legend said, I still cry.
British rule in India ended in 1947. Simultaneously, two independent states of India and Pakistan were born. From 1947-1971, the government of Pakistan discriminated against Bengalis in many ways. Bangladesh gained independence in 1971 through a bloody war.
With the passage of time, Bangladesh stands tall in the world court. On the other hand, Pakistan is yet to get its head straight. Seeing such a gap in front of their eyes, many people in Pakistan expressed regret. Pakistan's legendary screenwriter and director Anwar Maqsood spoke about the torture of the Pakistani government on Bengalis.
Anwar Maqsood spoke on a Pakistani podcast a few days ago. Regarding the partition of Pakistan, he said, 'Half of our country is gone. Most people forget about that half of us. Today's boys and girls do not know that Bangladesh was a part of Pakistan. People of Bangladesh made Pakistan by voting, if they didn't vote, Pakistan wouldn't have happened. But what have we done with them!'
Have we learned from our mistakes? Anwar Maqsood said in response to the moderator's question, 'We have not learned anything from our mistakes. Bhutto hanged Saab, killed Benazir. What have we done?'
Remember the memory of 1971? After hearing this, Anwar Maksud said, 'I still cry. I still listen to Bengali music. I have many paintings of Bangladeshi painters in my collection. We have lost the best part of Pakistan (Bangladesh).'
Then the host of the podcast wants to know, have we tortured them (Bangladeshis)? In response, Anwar Maqsood said, 'What we have done to them, calling it 'torture' is an understatement. They won the election (1970 general election). We ran the government from 1947 to 1971. And what would be the damage if they leave the governance in their hands for four years?'
Who do you think is the biggest culprit here? Anwar Maqsood replied, 'Everyone knows it.'
Anwar Maqsood was born on September 7, 1939 in Hyderabad. His family migrated to Karachi, Pakistan in 1948. Later, he received a bachelor's degree in law. He started his career as a lawyer. At one point he discovered his passion for creative writing. After that he started directing TV programs and writing screenplays.

বাংলাদেশ প্রসঙ্গে পাকিস্তানের কিংবদন্তি বললেন, আমি এখনো কাঁদিঃ কিংবদন্তি চিত্রনাট্যকার ও সঞ্চালক আনোয়ার মাকসুদ।
১৯৪৭ সালে ভারতে ব্রিটিশ শাসনের অবসান ঘটে। পাশাপাশি জন্ম হয় দুটি স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্র ভারত ও পাকিস্তানের। ১৯৪৭-১৯৭১ সাল পর্যন্ত বাঙালিদের প্রতি নানামুখী বৈষম্যমূলক আচরণ করে পাকিস্তান সরকার। ১৯৭১ সালে রক্তক্ষয়ী যুদ্ধের মাধ্যমে স্বাধীনতা অর্জন করে বাংলাদেশ।
সময়ের সঙ্গে বিশ্বদরবারে মাথা উঁচু করে দাঁড়িয়েছে বাংলাদেশ। অন্যদিকে, পাকিস্তান এখনো শিরদাঁড়া সোজা করতে পারেনি। চোখের সামনে এতটা ব্যবধান দেখে পাকিস্তানের অনেকের কণ্ঠে আক্ষেপ শোনা গেছে। বাঙালিদের ওপর পাকিস্তান সরকারের করা নির্যাতন নিয়ে কষ্টের বাণী শোনালেন পাকিস্তানের কিংবদন্তি চিত্রনাট্যকার ও সঞ্চালক আনোয়ার মাকসুদ।
কয়েকদিন আগে পাকিস্তানের একটি পডকাস্টে কথা বলেন আনোয়ার মাকসুদ। পাকিস্তানের বিভাজন প্রসঙ্গে তিনি বলেন, ‘আমাদের অর্ধেক দেশ চলে গেছে। আমাদের ওই অর্ধেক অংশের কথা অনেক মানুষই ভুলে গেছে। এখনকার ছেলে-মেয়েরা তো জানেই না বাংলাদেশ পাকিস্তানেরই অংশ ছিল। বাংলাদেশের মানুষ ভোট দিয়ে পাকিস্তান বানিয়েছিল, যদি তারা ভোট না দিতো তবে পাকিস্তান হতো না। অথচ তাদের সঙ্গে আমরা কী করেছি!’
আমরা আমাদের ভুল থেকে কিছু শিখিনি? সঞ্চালকের এ প্রশ্নের উত্তরে আনোয়ার মাকসুদ বলেন, ‘আমরা আমাদের ভুল থেকে কিছুই শিখিনি। ভুট্টো সাবকে ফাঁসি দিয়েছে, বেনজিরকে হত্যা করেছে। আমরা কী করেছি?’
১৯৭১ সালের স্মৃতি মনে পড়ে? এ কথা শুনেই আনোয়ার মাকসুদ বলেন, ‘আমি এখনো কাঁদি। আমি এখনো বাংলা গান শুনি। বাংলাদেশি চিত্রশিল্পীদের অনেক চিত্রকর্ম আমার সংগ্রহে রয়েছে। পাকিস্তানের সবচেয়ে ভালো অংশটা (বাংলাদেশ) আমরা হারিয়ে ফেলেছি।’
