On April 23, 2026, Project BATARIS, the extension banner program of the School of Arts and Sciences, successfully conducted a community engagement session at the Brgy. Calabuanan Barangay Hall, in collaboration with the Calabuanan Weavers and Handicrafts Association.
Anchored on the theme โKapehan para sa Kaunlaran: Paghahabi ng Serbisyo at Oportunidad para sa mga Manlilikha,โ the session created a meaningful space for dialogue, collaboration, and shared vision for the development of the local weaving community.
The program was graced by Hon. David P. Orolfo, Jr., Barangay Captain of Calabuanan, who delivered an inspiring message of hope and encouragement to the weavers, emphasizing the importance of strengthening local craftsmanship and community livelihood.
The School of Arts and Sciences team facilitated the discussion with the association, led by its president, Ms. Myrna E. Villaflor, who presented the identified needs and key areas for improvement within the organization. She expressed optimism for stronger collaboration with ASCOT and other external partner agencies in supporting the growth of the weaversโ craft and enterprise.
In the afternoon session, the dialogue was further enriched by the presence of key provincial stakeholders, including Ms. Virgilia P. Gomez, PESO Manager of Aurora, and Hon. Isidro P. Galban, Governor of Aurora, who both conveyed their commitment to support initiatives that empower local weavers and strengthen livelihood opportunities in the province.
The session highlighted the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration in advancing community-based enterprisesโtransforming shared conversations into pathways for development, sustainability, and empowerment.
Through initiatives like this, Project BATARIS continues to strengthen its commitment to responsive, inclusive, and partnership-driven community extension work.
