"I first knew I was interested in engineering during my freshman year of high school. I have always loved problem-solving, math, and helping others," says Erica Miller BS construction management '25.

A current student in Drexel University's College of Engineering, Miller says that she was drawn to Drexel because of the experiences available through the co-op program.

"Once I heard about the co-op program [at Drexel], I was convinced this is where I belonged. And that has held true…the Co-op program has helped me gain confidence in my interview skills. Public speaking is something I’ve always struggled with, but I felt great coming out of every interview," Miller shares.

27/08/2024

Since hearing the news of Drexel University's merger with then-Salus University, June He, assistant professor of product design in Drexel Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, has been developing an innovative research project to leverage the strengths of both institutions.

“I just thought that there had to be some way to do something together, like using Salus medical expertise to help build prototypes and test products in their clinical environment,” said He. “I am working on eyewear design and they are working on vision-related issues. Although our disciplines are very different, there are many shared areas for potential collaboration.”

With their project, titled “Human-centered Product Design for Local Older Communities with Vision Challenges,” He hopes to further develop this Drexel-Salus partnership in eyewear design, the treatment and management of vision rehabilitation, and design research and problem-solving.

“With our combined knowledge, one plus one is bigger than two,” says He.

"I used to see fabric as a way to hide myself, but now it’s become a way for me to show myself," says Kyle Westphal, BS fashion design '16 and graduate of the Drexel Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. The grandson of the late Rainer John “Ray” and Antoinette Westphal, he is also the subject of a documentary, “Let Me Be Me,” which follows his journey from a young child on the autism spectrum to a “fully emerged” fashion designer.

During his time at Drexel, Westphal completed a co-op with Carole Hochman Sleepwear in New York City, which introduced Westphal to forecasting trends and the business side of fashion.

"The fashion industry is incredibly dynamic, really a perfect blend of art and business," Westphal comments. "There's always something referenced by the past that's also being done in a new way. I love all the potential combinations that can happen, like a really fabulous, glamorous smoothie."

An entrepreneur from the beginning, Feldman has launched two businesses since graduating from Drexel, a full-service artist management company and a independent record label in partnership with Sony Music.

"Creative arts therapy is a form of psychotherapy that can be used in many different settings. I believe that connecting through creative arts is humanizing to those we work with as sometimes it is hard to talk about our feelings or histories," says Genevieve Hargrove, current student in the MS Dance/Movement Therapy program at Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions.

Established in 1974, Drexel University's Department of Creative Arts Therapies blends classroom, experiential and practical learning, enabling graduate students to learn side-by-side with future colleagues in the other creative arts therapy specialties.

Students can take advantage of Philadelphia’s lively arts community, which nourishes the artist, dancer and musician within and enables you to continue practicing your art form while pursuing graduate study.

"Drexel really transforms you," says Cailey Ruderman, BS materials science and engineering '24. A graduate from Drexel Engineering, Ruderman gained hands-on expertise in her field through a variety of experiential learning opportunities.

From inspecting National Guard bases during a co-op with Elsly Technology Corporation to spending six months in California for a manufacturing co-op with Apple to completing an Intensive Course Abroad (ICA) in Rome, Italy, Ruderman says that Drexel prepared her for her future career.

"Every co-op I had, and every year of coursework, allowed me to evolve and brought me to places that wouldn't have been possible without that structure," Ruderman shares. "Leveling up in that way is what I think makes Drexel unique, and it's something you have to take advantage of."

Our Drexel Dragons are experiencing the 2024 Paris Olympic Games on and off the field!

Wendy Woffington, a junior in the Drexel Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, traveled to Paris for an internship, under the mentorship of Janet Fletcher, Senior Director of Sports Marketing for the Olympics, NFL, and Major League Soccer.

“After taking Business of Sport in LeBow College of Business - Drexel University, I developed an interest in marketing, athlete styling, and sponsorships within the sports industry,” shares Woffington. “This experience provided me with a comprehensive understanding of partnerships with athletes and the dynamics of relationships with networks.”

During her time in Paris, Woffington watched the opening ceremonies from Team USA House, toured the stadiums, met with marketing teams, and attended Olympics events.

“On my final day, I attended the NFL Flag Football Celebration at the Team USA House. Flag football, the fastest-growing sport globally, will debut at the LA 2028 Olympics,” Woffington explains. “This milestone is significant for American football, especially for women and girls who will now have the opportunity to participate.”

"Looking back, I couldn’t be more grateful to have the opportunity to come out of college with the experience I have," says Aisa Feratovic, BS marketing '24 and recent graduate from the LeBow College of Business - Drexel University.

Feratovic was the first Drexel co-op student hired by Harding Loevner, an investment firm based in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
