The winner of the fourth and final week of the Wild UCL photography competition is…

“A whole wide world in miniature” by Sarah Sterlini (Project Officer, UCL200), taken in Gordon Square this week.

This week we received a variety of beautiful photos which reminded us to look much closer at the natural world around us.

We also wanted to highlight:

1. “The Wild Soil Microbiome”, a microscope image from a soil sample taken in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, by Muskan Jain (MArch Bio-Integrated Design) .design

2. “Fox hanging out in the first floor Urban Forest” at Maple House, by Bella Vivat (Principal Research Fellow)

3. “Spring is coming” in the Japanese Garden by Marie Dorn (PDRA in Vaccine Bioprocessing)

4. “Summer lunch breaks” behind the MRC building back in August by Musa Hassan (BSc Statistics, Economics and Finance)

Thanks to everyone who entered the competition - and stay tuned for the announcement of the winner in the Wild London category next week! 💚

The winner of wee 3 of the Wild UCL photography competition is…

“Common Lizard at MSSL” by Alice Breeveld (Research Fellow) - taken at the Millard Space Science Laboratoy back in October.

We thought it was a cool reminder of the wildlife across UCL’s many sites, including the MSSL in Surrey. Who knew UCL had lizards?

A voucher will be sent to you at the end of 28 Days of Sustainability 🎁

For our notable mentions this week, we also liked this photo of a seagull from Nick Bieber ( , IoA Library Assistant, reminding us that even inside UCL buildings, wildlife is all around us!

We also wanted to shout out these nice photos of green spaces on campus:

“All the colours of the rainbow in bloom”, Brunswick Square, by Sarah Lawson (Head of Queen Square Library)

“Sun between the trees”, outside Gordon Square, by Abigail May Surin (BSc Sustainable Built Environments, Energy and Resources)

“Brutalism vs blooms”, IOE, Core A Level 5, by Anna Boccassini (Web Content Manager)

The weather is improving - what better time to get some fresh air? 😎

Join us this Sunday for a Deep Time Walk and walk the 4600 million years of Earth’s history. You’ll join an immersive learning experience diving into geology, ecology, paleoclimatology and much more.

Along the walk, facilitators share stories, scientific insights, and moments for reflection to explore how life, climate, and planetary systems have co-evolved.

Open to both students and staff, the session provides something rarely found in seminars or lectures - space to slow down, reflect, and reconnect.

Join us at Regents Park this Sunday 12:30-15:30 ☀️

The winner of week 2 of the Wild UCL photography competition is…

“Fox Crossing” by Erin Minnott (Laws LLB) - outside the UCL Darwin lecture theatre near Gower St, taken just before the Christmas break.

A voucher will be sent to you at the end of 28 Days of Sustainability 🎁

We loved the way the fox is moving purposefully around campus, reminding us that even in central London, animals are going about their business.

We are receiving so many great submissions, that we have decided to also give a shoutout to some notable mentions each week. There were lots of great submissions reminding us of the approach of spring with flowers blooming and animals roaming.

1. “By the water” by Judith Wong (Communicatons Officer)

2. “Devouring student leftover wotsits” by Helena Wong (Chemistry Teaching Laboratories Services Manager)

3. “Delicate but Determined” by Muh. Nashrurrokhman (MSc Biomedical Sciences) .nashr
