Last month I facilitated a workshop for the Surge Angels kickoff entitled “Authentic Leadership for BIPOC Entrepreneurs”

As entrepreneurs of color, enacting authentic leadership is paramount to your business strategy.

How do we define authentic leadership? How do we decolonize our success frameworks? How do we use our origin stories and unique sauce to power our ideas?

This workshop was a blast to build and an added bonus that I got to support an organization I consider to be legendary both in its mission, its organizational culture, and its ex*****on.

Congratulations to the 2024 Surge Angels Cohort, for your entrepreneurial spirit and a dedication to pioneering innovative solutions in education, for your brilliant ideas, and for boldly stepping into your brilliance.

Wednesday Booked and Busy Reflection:

“Humans are stressful. Sometimes workplaces are a lot. And even when you love what you do as an entrepreneur clients and managing all the things can be a lot too. Instead of responding like a machine, respond with kicking up the self-care regimen.

I believe in taking a beat, prioritizing prayer time, meditating to Frank Ocean on Vinyl, lighting that favorite candle, taking an early yoga class, keeping my lunch hour sacred when working from home, and accepting the things I cannot change.

Wishing everyone extra grace, extra care, and WELLNESS at work this Wednesday.

I lead with the reality that I cannot force organizations to deliver on their DEI promises, nor can I ensure that every manager is emotionally intelligent, or that toxic systems of work will change. My work is to help humans thrive in these systems when change is elusive.

People of color often navigate systemic inequalities and societal pressures that create high levels of stress dysregulating the nervous system.

I talk to clients about nervous system regulation as a response to stressors related to disparities. discrimination in meetings, toxic conversations, and workplace drama.

To manage stress, reduce anxiety, and improve overall well-being, here are some practices for your consideration.
