Creative Destruction Lab The Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) is a seed-stage program for massively scalable, science-based companies.

Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) is a nonprofit organization that delivers an objectives-based program for massively scalable, seed-stage, science- and technology-based companies. The nine-month program employs an objectives-based mentoring process to enhance the performance of technical founders who learn from the insights of experienced entrepreneurs, with the goal of maximizing equity-value creation. Founded by Professor Ajay Agrawal in 2012 at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, the program has expanded and now has 11 sites across six countries: Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Halifax, Paris, Madison, Seattle, Estonia, Berlin, and Melbourne. The program combines 5 elements to help companies transition from science projects to scalable and financeable companies:
- An emphasis on objective-setting, helping companies focus on what’s most important to their business
- Focused mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs who have founded, led, and sold significant tech companies
- Technical advice from world-leading scientists, engineers, and economists
- Hands-on support from top business students, who embed within the company to provide business support
- Opportunities to raise capital, including angels and VCs from Europe and North America

The successful commercialization of cutting-edge science and technology achieved through the program has led to the creation of over CAD $35 billion in equity value.

Planetary infrastructure company Pixxel (CDL'20), announced the close of its $100M Series C funding round. Pixxel began with hyperspectral satellites that could reveal information about the Earth's surface beyond what conventional imagery could capture. The company has expanded its scope to include Aurora, its Earth intelligence software, and satellite systems for space missions.

Pixxel, the planetary infrastructure company, today announced the close of its $100 million Series C funding round, co-led by Temasek and Seraphim, with participation from existing investors. The round brings Pixxel’s total funding to $195 million and signals the company's next phase of growth as ...

ZuriQ (CDL'25) has raised $25.5M in seed funding to scale its trapped-ion quantum processors. Most trapped-ion quantum computers are built on an architecture first proposed more than two decades ago, in which ions are held in essentially one-dimensional chains stitched together into larger grids using complex junction structures. ZuriQ has taken a fundamentally different route with processors that are natively two-dimensional.

Announced today in Sudbury, Laurentian University will receive research funding of up to $1M over two years to advance the Canadian Digital Core Library, a national initiative to digitize Canada's geological record and make it openly available through an AI-ready platform.

Enabled by the Government of Canada's investment in the Canadian Digital Core Library, the funding will support a dedicated research program led by Laurentian’s Harquail School of Earth Sciences. Known as Canada's Mining University, Laurentian brings more than 65 years of research and teaching across the full mining cycle.

Alchemity (CDL'26) has announced the successful close of a Seed Financing round to support demonstration of a single step, liquid fuel production reactor system with zero CO2 emissions. Deployed directly at the point of gas production, this technology transforms waste or stranded bio-methane and CO2 into low-carbon fuels including sustainable aviation fuel, renewable diesel, and other valuable products.

DISA (CDL'21) has entered a definitive agreement to acquire IsoEnergy Ltd.'s Utah uranium portfolio and secured commitments for a $105M USD private placement, launching DISA Uranium to recover and produce uranium and remediate the West's abandoned mine sites.

DISA holds the only U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission license authorizing uranium recovery from legacy mine waste across multiple sites. Its patented High-Pressure Slurry Ablation technology is designed to concentrate uranium at the mine site, cutting the volume that needs to be hauled and processed downstream.

Multiverse Computing (CDL'20), global leader in efficient AI, announced a $570M USD Series C funding round at a $1.7B pre-money valuation.

At the heart of Multiverse's platform is CompactifAI, a compression technology that applies tensor networks, a mathematical framework from quantum physics, to the problem of AI model compression. This application was pioneered by co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Román Orús and reduces the size of large language models by up to 80-95% with immaterial accuracy loss. The result is AI that runs faster, consumes less energy, and can be deployed in environments where sending data to a hyperscaler is too expensive, too slow, or not permitted.

Quantum hardware company Qubic (CDL'22) has raised $2.5M USD in seed funding to commercialize its signal amplifiers, which boost the signals from qubits used in quantum computing.

Qubic claims its low-noise, cryogenic amplifiers are purpose-built for reading superconducting qubits without introducing as much heat as standard semiconductor amplifiers.

Two Small Fish led the seed round, which will help scale the manufacturing of Qubic’s cryogenic amplifiers.
