As Wichita plays host to the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament this week, more than 50 Shocker students, along with many staff, are getting the chance to see the action up close as they play a pivotal role behind the scenes. 🏀

March 18, 2025 - More than 50 Wichita State students will work behind the scenes at the NCAA Tournament on March 20 and 22 at Intrust Bank Arena. Students will help the teams, coaches, families and media. They will put up NCAA signs, set up and tear down locker rooms, hand out credentials and more.

Big news for research at Wichita State!

With a generous $1 million lead gift from Lynn and Sherry Nichols, we’re excited to launch efforts to build the new, state-of-the-art Shocker Fly Lab — an enclosed flight space designed for UAV research, design and testing.

This $12.75 million project, fully funded through private gifts, will position WSU at the forefront of unmanned aerial system education and innovation, providing hands-on learning for students, industry-sponsored competitions and groundbreaking faculty research. Full story: wsu.news/flylab

WSU senior Jeffrey Blessant took his first-ever trip abroad this January, exploring the heart of Italy with support from the Garvey family. Surrounded by gelato shops, cafés and historic beauty, he found something unexpected — the realization that even in a culture so different, there’s a shared human connection that makes the world feel smaller. As a psychology and creative writing major, this experience gave him a new lens to view human behavior, storytelling and the ways people across cultures find meaning in everyday life.
