Peter John is a reformed convict and rap artist who now works as a facilitator in conflict resolution for the Alternatives to Violence Project. He completed his facilitator's training in 2006, whilst serving a six year sentence for murder, where he continued working as a facilitator to his fellow inmates up until his release in September 2008.
Peter's creative career began in 2007 when he played the role of Cicero in Jail Caesar, a film directed by Paul. A film portraying the life of Julius Caesar. The film was shot in three working prisons.
His rap career began on Pollsmoor Prison where he founded the I.K-Crew. Incarcerated Knowledge, his fourteen track debut album, was released in 2010. The documentary also entitled Incarcerated Knowledge captured Peter's Journey from reformed convict to rap artist. It was screened at the 2012 Encounters South African Documentary festival. He has also featured as the mascot for Stellenbosch University's Wow Project as well as writing the theme song entitled, Wow.
In 2019, he featured as a cast member in the second run of the popular production . is an honest and empowering, multi-lingual docu-drama, performed by South African men who tell their own stories and confront their own toxic musculinity, as a contributing factor in the violence perpetuated against women and children.
And the journey continues.
