Dear Khayelitsha Human Settlement Forum Supporters, the information written on the previous page express our feeling of dissatisfaction after our application being excluded or our inclusion to the Project Steering Committee(PSC) due to late application after it was advertised on the community newspaper in which not all of us receives or read the newspaper. We as the KHSF requested a special meeting with the City of Cape Town Housing officials but the meeting was dominated by the PSC registered bodies that we did not invite but by the ward councillor. We did question their presence but the project manager insisted to have them due to an extended meeting proposed by the ward councillor. The two backyarders beneficiaries committee members that we were also affected by being exluded in the PSC were excused from the meeting by the registered PSC structures who had interest to be part of the PSC and who has not yet been appeared or elected by the community as stipulated on the Housing Selection Policy 2014 and Community Law Centre developed by University of the Western Cape based on the Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (SERI). The backyarders were the victims of corruption in the past caused by the previous ward councillor at ward 98 in Harare, Khayelitsha and they are still full of anger. The current ward 98 councillor has got his own people that he operates with and who are the current Project Steering Committee(PSC). We are so disappointed with the manner in which the ward 98 project manager and his colleagues conducted the meeting and the approached he used to tackle our case that we have presented to them. Can you please make an input because we want to take issue further due to the fact that the policy allows the KHSF and the beneficiaries to be part of the steering committtee and the current registered were not supposed to be part of the City of Cape Town but for the City of Cape town to announce to the public meeting that they have these bodies who responded to their advert and facilitate the process of election of the bodies by the community. Their process of advertising is for testing if there are stakeholders in the community but not elected by the process but to verify if there bodies with interest and also to tell the criteria in the general meeting of the stakeholders that they want. Can you please make an input to this matter.
