Experience and achievements from 1st year level till to-date.
I am currently a student at the University of Zululand KwaDlangezwa Campus. I’m doing Bachelor of Art in Intercultural Communication 2nd year student. I had an amazing experience since day one I started studying at UNIZULU. The love I’ve been getting from other students, my classmate is amazing and I will forever be grateful. There are times whereby things got a little difficult since I was trying to get used to some of the things that were done in our school, like familiarizing myself with lecture halls, the school library etc.

As an Intercultural Communication student I’ve achieved skills and more knowledge about communication. Intercultural Communication has made me even more aware of cultural differences and I hope I will be able to apply everything that I have learned to future interactions and experiences. Intercultural communications are far more complex than I imagined, when I take a step back and truly assess situations in which I believed an individual was acting strangely or inappropriately, I am much more able to contextualize such behaviours and am hopefully a more understanding and empathetic person as a result.

Career opportunities in Media Studies.

Media is a highly popular (and therefore competitive) field, so experience is critical. You'll need to be motivated and persistent in your applications.

To gain work experience and build up a portfolio of work, contact radio, television, newspaper, PR or advertising agencies (whichever match your career preferences) and ask about opportunities. Look out for summer placements, part-time and voluntary opportunities while on your course during the summer holidays or evenings and weekends. It may also be useful to get involved with your university radio station, paper or publications office.
