What do you understand by discovering your own child’s potential?
Potential lies within all of us, within every child. It isn’t dependent on any external factor and because of that, there is no ceiling or cap to how far your child can advance in his studies.
In Kumon, we discover a child’s potential by developing their ability to study work which they haven’t already been taught at school, without relying on anyone else. We refer to this as self-learning.
Our aim at Kumon is for students to self-learn. Think of the saying “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Give him a net and teach him how to fish and he’ll feed himself forever.” The same principle applies to Kumon. We give children the skills to become effective self-learners and the opportunity to advance in their studies far beyond their school grade.
Students whom we have developed to study material two, three or more years ahead of their school curriculum not only get the best results at school and later at university, but they also develop in character, become independent problem solvers who can take on challenges and face them with an ‘I can do’ attitude.
