*MOEKA FOOTBALL GROUND PRESENTS: STATE OF THE GAME - SEPTEMBER 2026 EDITION*
_Monthly Analysis on the State of Football & Team Progress_
September has been hectic π€£π
*1. SOUTH AFRICA - NATIONAL*
Biggest news in the country - SAFA has officially appointed Pitso Mosimane as new Bafana Bafana head coach. He takes over after Hugo Broos, who left after taking us to the World Cup knockout stages for the first time in history.
This is a second chance for Pitso. Many of us remember his first stint in 2010-2012 that ended badly. Now he comes back with trophies from Sundowns, Al Ahly and experience from Saudi. The expectation is high - AFCON 2027 qualifiers start now against Guinea.
Also, VAR is expected to be introduced in the later games of the season in the PSL. For us in kasi, we are still fighting for proper nets, lines, to secure donations of kits, balls, basic training equipments, etc
KEY THING OBSERVED: Pitso's APPOINTMENT is a chance improve grassroots. He launched a School Football Academy while he was unemployed. He states a need that SAFA must link Bafana to village FOOTBALL.
*2. NORTH WEST - PROVINCE*
At provincial level, nothing moves without money. North West teams are still waiting to see if development structures will be funded. The province produces talent, but talent leaves for Gauteng because there is no pathway here.
*3. MORETELE - REGION - LFA (MOLFA)*
This is where the pain is felt.
Teams have been given a task to generate funds to affiliate with MOLFA ahead of the new season. Deadline is *04 October 2026.*
MOLFA now says they have many competitions including Engen Cup, hence registration fees have increased:
- 2024: R500
- 2025: R750
- 2026: *R1000*
There is a ridiculous expectation on local teams to meet such payment. Local teams, village teams, are unfunded and unsponsored. Where does MOLFA expect kasi teams to get R1000 when we don't even have sponsors for transport?
We understand competitions cost money, but if the fee doubles in 2 years while support stays at zero, we are killing kasi football, not growing it. Progress cannot be measured by how much you charge teams, but by how many teams survive the season.
While we see that MOLFA is transparent: We see where this R1000 go. But what is the plan to help teams become sustainable?
*4. MOEKA - VILLAGE & SURROUNDINGS*
Around Moeka, there are signs of growth that we must celebrate.
Congratulations to *Star K* for hosting a blockbuster Heritage Cup on 24 September. This is a symbol of growth and development. Teams being able to host tournaments on their own, without waiting for the region, is progress. This is what we mean by Development & Growth & Stability. Well done Star K.
On the other hand, the *Sika-Ma-Rizor tournament* is still not heard of since being postponed last month in August. Players are asking, supporters are asking. When a tournament of this magnitude is postponed without certainty, hope is kinda lost. The money won at this tournament is a big deal for the development of Kasi teams. This is the most celebrated, cherished and adored Kasi tournament. A Must-Win. No tournament in the region beats this one.
*OUR VERDICT FOR SEPTEMBER:*
1. Pitso's return is a chance to reconnect national football. And we want Afcon.
2. MOLFA must rethink the R1000 affiliation. If you want more competitions like Engen Cup, find sponsors for affiliation too, or else this will lead to exclusion of unfunded village teams.
3. Moeka and surrounding villages are showing that we can progress on our own (Star K Heritage Cup).
What do you think? Is R1000 too much for kasi teams? Should MOLFA help teams find sponsors?
Drop your opinion in the comments. This is our game.
