This Heritage Day, we celebrate the many cultures, traditions, languages and experiences that shape who we are as South Africans.

As we honour our cultural heritage, we also celebrate our natural heritage. Today, the Department of Finance and Investment Management (DFIM) community came together at Door of Hope Village for our Nelson Mandela Day initiative!🤏🏾

Not only did our APK and Soweto campus teams roll up their sleeves to lay bricks for children's homes, but we also took on an extra mission: clearing out the space to make room for brand-new structures to flourish! 🤩

From brick-making to site clearing, our students and staff showed up and put in the work to make a real difference.

Huge shoutout to everyone who came out, got stuck in the mud, and brought the positive energy today! ✨

The DFIM community had the privilege of learning from Prof Wafo Soh, Full Professor of Mathematics at Jackson State University (USA), as he unpacked automatic differentiation as a computational tool for exact derivatives in quantitative finance.

Bridging Theory and Practice: Income Tax Group Presentations📙

DFIM is proud to share highlights from the recent Income Tax Group Presentations, an initiative aimed at strengthening the practical readiness of our Financial Planning students. This activity forms part of our broader commitment to exposing students to real‑world industry expectations, professional standards, and the applied nature of financial planning.

Through these presentations, students were encouraged to move beyond theory by developing professional communication skills and gaining deeper insight into what is required to succeed as a future financial adviser. This includes not only technical competence, but also ethical awareness and a strong client‑centered approach.

DFIM ushered in the Mother’s Day weekend by spending time with the residents of Park Care Centre on Friday, where we shared a fun-filled musical morning together. 💐

This initiative forms part of our annual community outreach programmes, and we were delighted to be joined by students from UJ Investment Society, UJ ABSIP, and UJ Community Engagement Community Engagement volunteers.

A heartfelt thank you to Park Care Centre for warmly welcoming us and giving us the chance to connect with their residents. We're also grateful to everyone who helped make the day so memorable and meaningful! 🧡
