The yahoo economy did not just recruit young men. It created a market. Young men with sudden money and no values to anchor it will spend it on different women every weekend. And for a young woman with no example of a different life, the compass does not just break. It gets crushed under the same survival pressure crushing everyone around her.

This is where it starts. A girl who cannot afford sanitary pads. A girl who dropped out when the fees became impossible. A girl who has never once seen a woman from her own community become something she could point to and say, that could be me.
Then the wrong offer arrives, and it does not look like destruction. It looks like relief.

Some of them are impregnated and abandoned. Some are used for rituals. Some survive all of it and are still left useless for themselves and family. Useless to a future that was stolen before they understood what was happening.

This is the real reason. Not that the girls started bad, but nothing was ever built to protect them.

Then there is Rachael.

Rachael is in Kwara State right now, doing the work nobody films. No glamour. No applause. Just showing up every week for girls who have never had anyone show up for them. Being the example nobody gave her. Creating the safe space that was not there when she needed it herself.

Watch to the end and you will understand why someone like Rachael is needed in your community too. And why what she is doing can be replicated everywhere, if we build the infrastructure around it.

But there is another half of this story that nobody is talking about. And the silence around it is doing as much damage as the thing itself.

Today I am breaking that silence.

This episode is for the girls. The ones growing up in communities where the doors exist but nobody ever showed them where to look. No mentor. No signposter. No example of what is possible for a girl who comes from where they come from.

One of our community workers told me something recently that I have not been able to stop thinking about. You need to hear what she said.

The children we invest in today are the same people who will become our doctors, our governors, our police officers, our nurses, and our neighbours when we are old.

When we no longer have the strength to fight for ourselves. When we cannot drive ourselves to the hospital. When we depend on someone else to make the decisions that affect whether we live well or suffer quietly.

The young person you ignore today is the government worker who will process your pension tomorrow. The young person you fail to build today is the leader who will run the country you retire into.

This is not charity. This is the most practical investment any generation can make. You are not investing in their future. You are investing in yours.

What kind of under-30s are we building? That question does not belong to the young people. It belongs to us. And the answer is being written right now by what we build — or what we fail to build.

This is the part I need people to understand.

The system that pulls young people into cultism, into crime, into destruction, it was not an accident. It was built. Structured. Intentional. It has a pipeline. It has recruiters. It has a curriculum.

The legitimate opportunities exist. They are out there. But they are scarce, hidden, and most young people in these communities do not even know they are available. Meanwhile, the wrong system has a mentor on every corner, a signposter in every neighbourhood, a clear path from recruitment to reward.

That is the gap. Not that there is nothing good. But that good has not been built with the same structure, or the same consistency as the thing it is competing against.

That is what Epponomy is doing. Building the mentors, the signposters, the infrastructure that prepares and forms young people to become the best version of themselves — before the wrong system gets there first.

This is why we always say we cannot do it alone. No single organisation can solve something this big, and we have never claimed to. We are open to collaboration, and just as open to others taking their own approach entirely, as long as it tackles the same problem and moves us toward the same goal.

This is the cost most people don't talk about.

In Episode 1b I told you about Dayo. Arrested for gang crime just days after his wife put to bed. Newborn children who needed everything. Hospital bills that did not pause. A wife left carrying what was meant for two.

When we lose a young man to the wrong path, we do not lose one person. We lose a household. Sometimes we lose the next generation before it even starts.

The opportunities exist out there. But they are scarce, hidden, and most people in these communities never knew they were available. Without a mentor, a signposter, someone who shows a young person that a different door is real, the wrong path fills the space first. And it does not just take the young person. It takes everyone connected to them.

We keep telling young people to change. Get a skill. Stay away from bad company. Choose a different path.

But here is the truth we do not say out loud. The doors exist. They are out there. But they are scarce, hidden, and only a few people even know they are available. And for the majority of young people in our communities, those doors might as well not exist at all.

That is the real problem. Not that there is nothing. But that what is there never reaches the people who need it most.

Every community needs a mentor, a signposter, someone or something that shows a young person that the door is real and helps them walk through it. Not motivation. Infrastructure. The kind that prepares and forms them to become the best version of themselves before the wrong system gets there first.

That is what we are building.
