𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞

The University of Limpopo visited Sango Combined School in Stoffberg, a small agricultural and historic town in the Nkangala District Municipality of Mpumalanga, situated along the R555. The outreach exhibition aimed to guide and inspire Grade 12 learners by exposing them to a range of higher education opportunities and pathways.

Organiser Precious Skhosana from Sango NGO expressed her heartfelt appreciation, noting that the University’s visit provided learners with valuable insight into university life and empowered them to make more informed decisions about their future.

𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫-𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩

The Centre for Student Counselling and Development (CSCD), through its Community and School Outreach/In-reach Programme, successfully conducted a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Workshop for Life Orientation Educators in the Capricorn District today. The workshop was aimed at equipping educators with relevant knowledge, practical skills, and intervention strategies to effectively address and respond to issues of gender-based violence within school communities.

The session focused on raising awareness about the causes and impact of GBV, promoting gender equality, strengthening psychosocial support for learners, and empowering educators to identify and manage GBV-related challenges in educational settings. Participants were also encouraged to foster collaborative partnerships between schools, communities, and support structures to create safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments.

This initiative forms part of the University of Limpopo’s continued commitment to community engagement, social responsibility, and the promotion of human dignity and wellbeing within society.

Theme: “Mental Health Is Your Everyday Business”

The Employee Health and Wellness Office hosted a Mental Health Awareness Campaign for staff members at the DIMAMO Population Health Research Centre (PHRC). The workshop, guided by the theme “Mental Health Is Your Everyday Business,” aimed to raise awareness about the importance of mental well-being and inform employees about the support services available to them.

Various support units, including the Centre for Student Counselling and Development, the Gender Desk, Safety and Security, and the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, provided valuable insights. These included the link between mental health and occupational stress, the importance of a healthy lifestyle, the impact of harassment on mental well-being, and personal safety awareness.

Staff members actively participated in interactive activities that encouraged introspection, stress checks, and open discussions on healthy coping strategies. They were encouraged to maintain balanced lifestyles, adopt nutritious diets, and prioritise self-care.

The campaign also emphasised the importance of fostering a supportive work environment by promoting open communication, recognising employee efforts, providing access to counselling services, and encouraging work-life balance. Staff were urged to report harassment through the Gender Desk, take responsibility for their actions, avoid discrimination, and seek help whenever needed.
