Today, we commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of the young people of 16 June 1976, whose courage helped shape South Africa’s journey to freedom and democracy.

As we mark the 50th anniversary of June 16, we reflect on their enduring legacy and celebrate the power of young people to drive positive change.

This year’s Youth Day theme, “Skills for the Changing World – Empowering Youth for Meaningful Economic Participation,” highlights the importance of equipping our youth with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to thrive in an evolving world.

At our faculty, we are proud to play a role in developing future leaders, innovators, and professionals who will help build a stronger South Africa.

Connections that inspire global learning 🌍

Recently, our Manager: Strategic Initiatives & Projects,Ms Andiswa Mrasi, had the pleasure of catching up with one of our international exchange students, Kai Borsum, from Hochschule Hannover, 🇩🇪

What stood out most was Kai’s reason for choosing Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) — the opportunity to meet and learn from his academic hero, Pieter Steenkamp, PhD from our CPUT Department of Marketing, a respected leader in Marketing & Brand Management.

Moments like these remind us of the global impact of academic excellence and the power of inspiring educators. As a faculty, we remain proud to be recognised among leading business and management science schools, shaping minds and building connections across borders.

Education becomes most meaningful when learning extends beyond the classroom.

Students from the Department of Accounting Sciences at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) had the honour of attending the 2026 STATS SA Budget Vote 14 Debate at the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa as guests of Deputy Minister in The Presidency, Hon. Nonceba Mhlauli.

The experience exposed students to important national discussions on cybersecurity, data science, statistics, taxation, governance, and evidence-based decision-making shaping South Africa’s future.

It was inspiring to witness meaningful engagements between students, Hon. Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, Hon. Nonceba Mhlauli, Hon. Kenneth Morolong, and the Statistician-General on the vital role young people play in driving innovation through data.

Congratulations to the students who proudly represented the department and faculty, and sincere appreciation to the staff members who continue creating impactful real-world learning opportunities.

Together, we are shaping a future informed by data. 📊

The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Accounting Sciences Student Society successfully hosted the 2026 Accounting Professions Day & Student Awards Ceremony at District Six Campus under the theme: “Shaping the Future of Accountancy.”

The event brought together students, academic staff, alumni, and industry leaders including representatives from PwC, CIBA - Chartered Institute for Business Accountants , The Institute of Internal Auditors , SAIGA - The Southern African Institute of Government Auditors, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), SAIPA - South African Institute of Professional Accountants, and ACCA to celebrate student excellence, leadership, and professional growth.

Students received bursaries, laptops, historical debt bursaries, and professional examination vouchers in recognition of their achievements.

Special appreciation to the organising committee — Ms Nelly Rose Msiza , Ms Lolwethu Luthuli, Mr Mvelo Siyaya, and Mr Inga Sityata — for delivering a successful event.

🏆 Men of Valour Award Recognition: Pieter Steenkamp, PhD

The Faculty of Business and Management Sciences proudly celebrates Pieter Steenkamp, PhD, recipient of the 2026 Men of Valour (MOV) Award.

Hosted at the Southern Sun Cullinan, the awards honour individuals whose leadership creates meaningful societal impact through empowerment, mentorship, and community development.

Pieter Steenkamp, PhD was recognised for his contributions to education and community brand-building. As a pracademic at CPUT, he bridges theory and practice by connecting academic knowledge with real-world community engagement. Over the past 20 years, he has facilitated more than 300 community-based projects, empowering both students and communities.

In his acceptance remarks, he highlighted the power of education to transform lives, acknowledging the students, colleagues and communities who have been part of his journey.

The Men of Valour platform, created by PANACHE PROMOTIONS AND EVENTS led by Farzana Mayet, celebrates leaders driving inclusive social and economic progress.

Congratulations to Pieter Steenkamp, PhD on this well-deserved recognition.
