We are pleased to announce the workshop "Sermilik Station in an Arctic Perspective" will be held at the University of Graz, Austria, from May 27th to 29th, 2026.
Sermilik Research Station, located in Southeast Greenland and operated by the Institute of Geography and Regional Science, is Austria's only Arctic research facility. The workshop brings together international researchers, station partners, and early-career scientists to chart the next decade of interdisciplinary research at the station â spanning scientific fields such as glaciology, meteorology, oceanography, biogeochemistry, geomorphology, monitoring infrastructure, and international collaboration.
Keynote speakers include Fiamma Straneo (Harvard), SĂžren Rysgaard (Aarhus / CIFAR), Sebastian Mernild (SDU / Bergen), Jacob Yde (HVL Sogndal), Anders BjĂžrk (Copenhagen), Leigh Stearns (UPenn), and Lauren Andrews (NASA). The program is supported by several APRI research groups and also features impulse talks on Arctic ecology, paleoenvironments, satellite communication, and the social dimensions of polar research from Austrian research groups, as well as a dedicated event for early career scientists.
The workshop is open to researchers, students, and partners with an interest in Arctic research. Participation is free of charge, and registration is open until May 22nd, 2026.
