Our broad field of activity – ranging from fundamental to applied research – sets us apart. We work in close cooperation with universities and enterprises throughout Europe. The centre consists of two institutions working together:

Institute for Electron Microscopy and Nanoanalysis (FELMI)
Graz University of Technology

FELMI is an institute of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and Geodesy o

f the TU Graz. Since 1951, the institute has been addressing challenges in the field of advanced microscopy. FELMI plays a prominent role supporting interdisciplinary and interfaculty research at TU Graz and offers training for bachelor, master, and PhD programmes. Graz Centre for Electron Microscopy (ZFE)
Austrian Cooperative Research (ACR)

The Graz Centre for Electron Microscopy (ZFE) provides collaborating partners and customers access to the latest technologies for advanced materials characterisation, quality control, and failure analysis. As a member of the Austrian Cooperative Research, ZFE works mainly with small and medium-sized enterprises. ZFE is operated by the non-profit Association for the Development of Electron Microscopy and Fine Structure Research. Main Research Activities:

Der Frühling kommt, die Blumen beginnen zu blühen!
Ermutigt durch die zahlreichen positiven Rückmeldungen zu unserem Adventkalender 2023 und auf allgemeinen Wunsch hin zeigen wir in der Kar-Woche die Pollen einiger schöner Pflanzen, die wir untersucht haben.
Den Anfang macht Basilikum! Die zarten schönen Blüten setzen kugelige Pollen frei. Das Bild wurde mit einem Rasterelektronenmikroskop (REM) in 1.000-facher Vergrößerung gemacht und wurde von unserer Kollegin am FELMI-ZFE sehr ansprechend eingefärbt – denn REM-Bilder bekommt man grundsätzlich in Grautönen, da die Wellenlängen bei der Untersuchung viel kleiner als das sichtbare Licht – und damit Farben – sind.
