How can inherited design strategies respond to the conditions of contemporary architecture? In what ways can they be continuously adapted to address social, ecological, and economic challenges? The Graz Architecture Lectures 26 address the theme of “Tradierung und Transformation,” inviting to engage with the perspectives of those whose architectural practice critically addresses the current challenges of transforming the built environment.

Three evenings, each featuring two lectures, will explore architectural knowledge, references as the appropriation of previously conceived architecture, and the existing building stock as a material legacy.

In Chris Younès contribution to GAM 22, entitled “On Limits and Passages: A Philosophical Perspective on Synergies in Architectural Research,” she argues for transdisciplinary forms of research that foster exchanges between diverse fields, practices, and ways of thinking. The text reconsiders boundaries not as fixed divisions but as sites of encounter, transformation, and invention. In the face of climate change, biodiversity loss, globalization, social and technical transformations, architectural research is called upon to establish new connections between academia, practice, education, experimentation, and culture. Particular attention is given to the relationships between humans and non-humans, nature and artifacts, ecosystems and anthropization, as well as rationality, sensibility, and empathy.

On June 26, 2026, the Faculty of Architecture celebrated the end of the semester by transforming the campus into a vibrant exhibition space. Thirteen institutes showcased the work and projects of the past academic year, offering insights into the diversity of architectural approaches and teaching methods at the faculty. As in previous years, the Sketchbook Prize was awarded by Dean Petra Petersson on the stage in the campus park. The evening concluded with live performances by the bands Sunfield, wernawarum, and Silkyway, providing a lively soundtrack to the summer exhibition. Among its distinguished guests were TU Graz Rector Horst Bischof, Annette Mütze (University Senate), Barbara Steiner (University Council), Markus Bogensberger (Department 16 Transport and Building Construction, Province of Styria), and Rainer Wührer (ZT Kammer).
