Mobility, Knowledge and Innovation Hubs
in Urban a

nd Regional Development

27th International Conference on Urban Planning
and Regional Development in the Information Society

Mobility hubs are far from being limited to their function as transport hubs. In places where many people come together, information and knowledge are exchanged and new ideas are developed. Since mankind has become sedentary, such hubs have formed where the exchange of people, goods, but also ideas and knowledge takes place. With the rise of cities, this process has intensified and today, when almost 60 % of the world's population lives in cities, dealing with this centre function is more important than ever. New challenges keep emerging that keep us busy maintaining and developing the functions of such hubs:

Societal transformation and changes in population and ageing structures require adjustments to both urban structures and rural areas. Ecological footprint, energy performance certificate and climate governance are not mere buzzwords, but important fields of action to steer future developments. The increasingly easy access to all forms of mobility on land, water and in the air is not only changing our settlement and social structure. The construction and operation of mobility infrastructure is often resource-intensive. Above all this hovers the sphere of digitisation. Much is already possible without having to physically move for it – data, information and knowledge move instead. In recent years, the pandemic has shown how quickly our structures can be shaken to their foundations even without "conventional" natural disasters. The diverse reactions and the struggle to return to normality, which continues to this day, have produced some remarkable results. REAL CORP 2022 addresses the links between society's innovative achievements and the confronting demands of our environment, cities and settlements. In order to achieve acceptable sustainable development, spatial planning and related disciplines need to carefully address current trends and influence them with appropriate governance mechanisms to maintain and improve the quality of life, but also to decisively address the concerns of our ecosystem. We therefore invite contributions from all disciplines involved in urban development in order to analyse the challenges for the future of urban spaces in a holistic manner. In addition to science-based contributions, we also welcome practice-based reports on short-term measures and/or long-term strategies for urban and regional development. Here are the main topics REAL CORP 2022 is going to deal with:

Sustainable mobility – how can transport and the environment be brought under one roof? Climate change and climate protection – how many minutes to 12 is it, how do we need to change our approach to the ecosystem? Natural disasters and extreme weather events: What impact do our actions have on nature? Ecosystem and resources: energy, clean water, fertile soil and clean air are limited – how do we use them sparingly and efficiently? Urban farming – on house fronts, underground, in abandoned farm areas, on balconies? Social change and changes in population structure: Different continents have very different starting points, and accordingly the processes of change are also very heterogeneous. What can we learn from each other here? Spatial transformation in urban and rural areas – which structures are affected by change, what impact does this have on other areas? "Long Covid" thought differently – what long-term effects of the pandemic will accompany us in the future? Digitisation brings new forms of work, life and living? To what degree is this useful, what advantages and disadvantages does it create? Social innovation – with which measures, ideas and models can social challenges be met? To what extent are social and technical innovation interdependent or merged? Technical innovation: What impact does the rapid progress of (especially digital) technology have on the future development of our cities? How smart does a city have to be? Real estate of the future: What requirements will buildings and settlements have to meet in the future? Accessibility, low or zero energy, resource conservation, re-use, mixed use, inclusion – what is feasible, where are compromises necessary? For all those topics REAL CORP 2022 asks especially about

The role of urban planning and related disciplines
Digitisation and technological innovation
Short term measures, long range perspectives

The theme of this year's International Family Day, which is celebrated on 15 May, is Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing. On this occasion we are taking a look at the number of live births per 1,000 inhabitants, which may serve as an indicator for fmily development. Interestingly, visualising these numbers on the map makes the settlement structures invisible. There are absolutely no significant differences between agglomerations and sparsely populated areas. Also, the numbers in Slovakia are on the same level despite a younger population structure.

Opportunity to be visible at WUF - World Urban Forum ...
"grass-root-coalition" by IUPF

As most of my contacts here know I am a convinced and life-time ISOCARP-meber, although there have been some debates within this society lately- like in every family - I highly recommend planners to join ISOCARP, www.isocarp.org - BTW there was a fantastic congress in Riad in December ...

Anyway, there is another rather NEW INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION: IUPF - INTERNAITONAL URBAN PROFESSIONALS FORUM, mainly established to bring fresh ideas and approaches to urban development, open new horizons, not reducing it to planning but inviting ALL PROFESSIONALS dealing with URBAN ISSUES (affordable housing, mobility, health, circular economy, real estate, urban ecology, ... - just to mention a few) ,
see iupf.net

One of the first public activities by IUPF will be to attend the upcoming WUF - World Urban Forum in Baku in a few days (17-22 May 2026, see https://wuf.unhabitat.org/wuf13).
Not for all of us it will be possible to travel to Baku (some will do so and contribute actively), but as said, IUPF will be there and has started an interesting initiative: they want to make also initiatives visible at WUF in form of a "grassroot coalition" and make your organisation/association/initiative visible by NAME / LINK / LOGO.

Info and opportunity here:
https://iupf.clubdesk.com/welcome/grassroots_coalition

So feel free to join - as you might imagine I have registered CORP association and thereby joined this "grassroot coalition" and hope for positive response from the CORP-family - as no one form CORP can attend WUF in Baku this is a good way to say "We don´t hide ourselfes, we want to be visible on the global stage when it comes to urban development in all it´s aspects!

It's hard to believe that it's already been three weeks since REAL CORP 2026. Time truly flies! The proceedings are available online (www.corp.at), and I want to extend a special thanks to everyone who participated and contributed.

In other news, Roland Moesl, whom some of you may have met, has initiated an article on REAL CORP on Grokipedia: https://grokipedia.com/page/REAL_CORP.
While I may not agree with every detail ("inside view" vs. "outside view"; editing is possible), I believe the essential points are covered. It's impressive to see what AI can compile in such a short amount of time.

"Knowledge Gain Through Conference Participation" - it's already public, so no secrets, no copyrights, etc. - I've been offering this course at the TU for several years now - with one key point: actual participation in an international conference and experiencing how it works - yes, a monkey can also read the slides - but more than 30 years of professional conferences... - with the willingness to answer every question... - just like the conference proceedings archive.corp.at - it is free content... just in case... here is my introduction to the seminar - as I said... - a monkey can present the slides... - but... who has more than 30 years of experience and talks with every participant... - in times of AI... - what is intellectual property? https://augarten.corp.at/index.php/s/cPIujwJtTWtyOxK
