🎓 Welcome TISE Students!

This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming our TISE cohort to their final semester at the University for Continuing Education Krems. It’s an exciting milestone as they enter the last chapter of their academic journey.

To kick off the semester, the group started with a field trip through the beautiful city of Krems an der Donau—exploring the region, connecting with classmates, and setting the stage for the months ahead. The day offered a great opportunity to reflect on how far they’ve come while looking forward to the final projects and achievements still to come.

We are proud to accompany these talented professionals on the final stretch of their program and look forward to seeing their ideas, collaborations, and innovations unfold in the coming months.

Here’s to a successful and inspiring last semester! 🚀

Green Horizons Project Kicks Off!

The kick-off meeting of the Green Horizons project took place on 18 November 2025 at the University of Continuing Education Krems (UWK), Austria. The event brought together international partners from Austria, Poland, Italy, and Estonia, marking the official launch of this important European cooperation initiative.

The University of Continuing Education Krems (Universität für Weiterbildung Krems) serves as the coordinator of the project, with Kay Mühlmann and Liliya Satalkina as the UWK investigators. Funded under the Erasmus+ Programme – Cooperation Partnerships in Vocational Education and Training (KA220-VET), the consortium is particularly proud to have been selected in a highly competitive evaluation process.

The Green Horizons project has been developed in response to the growing need to enhance the competitiveness and resilience of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the face of environmental and technological transformation. To address these challenges, the project focuses on building the capacity of SMEs to implement greener and more innovative business practices, accelerating the green transition across Europe’s SME landscape. By equipping VET stakeholders with new skills and knowledge, the project contributes to Europe’s broader goals of sustainability, digital transformation, and competitiveness, with a particular emphasis on the Agri-Food sector. Through a comprehensive set of activities, Green Horizons will develop and implement a training scheme for SMEs and VET professionals, increasing awareness of the energy transition, circular economy, and climate-friendly practices. A central output will be an interactive digital educational platform, supported by open educational resources, innovative teaching materials, and sector-specific training content.

The meeting in Krems provided an excellent opportunity for all partners to align their visions, plan upcoming activities, and establish a shared framework for collaboration.

Over the next two years, the consortium will work together to advance the green transformation of Europe’s SMEs — building a more sustainable, competitive, and environmentally responsible future.

TISE at the EU-US Young Leaders Seminar in Brussels

We are proud to share that a delegation of TISE students took part in the transatlantic EU-US Young Leaders Seminar, held in Brussels from 12–15 May! 👏

Representing cohorts 3 and 4, Andreea Comerzan, Eline Coustenoble, Vera van Beek and Anna Weber joined fellow participants and scholars from the Fulbright and Erasmus Mundus programs on both sides of the Atlantic for a dynamic seminar on Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities, Challenges, and the Path Forward. Over three days, our students engaged in insightful discussions on the future of AI, digital governance, and the evolving transatlantic relationship. Through panels and roundtable sessions with inspiring professionals from across the globe, they explored how international cooperation can help shape a more inclusive and ethical digital transformation.

We’re pleased to see the TISE curriculum resonates with the demands of modern societies, highlighting the importance of diverse stakeholder engagement, responsible innovation, and ethical approaches within the complex socio-technical systems in which AI is embedded. We look forward to the fresh insights our students will bring back to the TISE community and to the future they are helping to shape in these times of global transitions and polycrises.

A heartfelt thank you to the European Union Delegation to the United States, the German Marshall Fund of the United States, and the Commission for Educational Exchange between the U.S., Belgium and Luxembourg for granting this opportunity and making this enriching experience possible!

A team of international students from the EU-funded Erasmus+ Master's program TISE (Transition, Innovation and Sustainability Environments) paid a visit to pre-Christmas Krems for an initial fact-finding mission for their transdisciplinary practical project. Representing Mayor Peter Molnar and Stadtmarkting Managing Director Horst Berger, Municipal Councillor Dominic Heinz (Krems Municipal Councillor, independent) and Dipl.-Ing. Franz Sam (Sahm - Architects) guided the students through Krems' old town to discuss current projects and future urban development challenges. Further discussions took place with representatives of the Krems cycling lobby. As part of their study visit in the summer semester of 2025, the students will work together with representatives of the municipality and the Krems public on ideas and concepts for a liveable and sustainable old town development with a focus on the revitalization of the newly designed Untere Landstraße and the extended Herzogstraße. This project, which brings together science, practice and stakeholders in a transdisciplinary dialog, is part of an ambitious study program at the Department für Wissens- und Kommunikationsmanagement of Universität für Weiterbildung Krems, which, in cooperation with the universities of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Dublin and Poznań University of Economics and Business, brings students from all over the world with a wide range of professional backgrounds to Krems an der Donau every year to train them as change-makers for a sustainable and innovative future.
