European University on Responsible Consumption and Production

Committed to Planet A. EURECA-PRO has a two-fold societal and planetary mission.

European Universities are intended to represent a new form of cooperation between higher education institutions in Europe with the long-term goal of strengthening the excellence the European Higher Education Area. Through its novel approach it, on the one hand, holistically contributes to the highly topical issue of Sustainable Consumption and Production under the umbrella of Sustainable Development Goal 12, and on the other hand it effectively contributes to the development of the European Higher Education Area complimentarily to Sustainable Development Goal 4. EURECA-PRO consists of Montanuniversität Leoben (Austria), Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany), Technical University of Crete (Greece), Universidad de León (Spain), Politechnika Śląska (Poland), Universitatea din Petroșani (Romania) and Hochschule Mittweida (Germany), Universiteit Hasselt (Belgium) and Université de Lorraine (France). 🤝 When a research mobility becomes a gateway to new connections.

❔ What can happen when more than 110 researchers from different countries and disciplines come together?

🎤 For Rita Theresa El Kahi, a PhD student at Université de Lorraine, taking part in InterTechDOC 2026 at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland, was an opportunity to present her research, exchange with researchers from different fields and build an international network.

Her research focuses on how certain characteristics of lipid nanocarriers can influence their ability to deliver drugs to the brain, with potential applications in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Beyond the scientific exchanges, the mobility also gave Rita the opportunity to step outside her comfort zone, discover new perspectives and build friendships with researchers from around the world.

💬 “I realised that a simple conversation can sometimes become the starting point for a future collaboration between disciplines, universities, or even academia and industry.”

Through EURECA-PRO, mobility can be much more than travelling to another university: it can be the beginning of new ideas, collaborations and international connections.

🔵 Next week, the University of Petroșani welcomes colleagues from across the EURECA-PRO Alliance to the EURECA-PRO Staff Week, taking place from 19 to 23 October 2026 in Petroșani, Romania!

🤝 Under the theme "Enhancing Stakeholders Participation and Sustainable Career Development Across the EURECA-PRO Alliance", the week brings together Career Services professionals, academic and support staff, researchers, PhD students, students and external stakeholders from our partner universities.

💼 Five days of workshops, best practice exchanges and round tables will lay the groundwork for a joint EURECA-PRO Career Services Centre: mapping student needs, sharing good practices from Freiberg, León, Crete and Petroșani, exploring arts- and photography-based career guidance, and building a common framework for alumni and stakeholder engagement.

🏰 On Wednesday, the programme moves beyond the campus to Nopcsa Castle and Karaba Manor, two living heritage sites where art, music and community show how external stakeholders can become true partners of a European University.

🎯 By Friday, participants will have shaped a Good Practices catalogue, a Stakeholder Engagement Map and a roadmap for Career Services collaboration across the Alliance.
