✨People come first.

For Sarah Bauernberger, supporting people in challenging situations was more than just a career aspiration from an early age. She has been volunteering with emergency medical services since she was 17, laying the foundation for her path into nursing.

Through her bachelor’s degree in Health and Nursing at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, she deepened her knowledge and gained valuable experience in the healthcare sector through numerous internships. Today, she works in the Pulmonology Department at the Salzburg State Hospitals, supporting patients with expertise, empathy, and great dedication. 💙

Her studies have shaped her not only professionally but also personally: “The work has strengthened my character. You learn to take on responsibility and grow through challenges.”

👨‍🎓Ready for the digital future.

With an apprenticeship as an IT technician — including a program leading to the Matura — Matthias Krallinger laid the foundation for his career in IT. After working as a system administrator, SAP consultant, and embedded software developer, he decided to further expand his expertise by pursuing a part-time Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology & System Management at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences.

💬 “The program was ideal because I was able to advance my career without giving up my job.”

He was particularly impressed by the breadth of the curriculum and a semester abroad in Norway.

Standing still is not an option for him: After successfully completing his bachelor’s degree, he’s continuing his journey with a master’s program in Cyber Security at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences.

💬 “In cyber security today, you can never know enough.”

His conclusion:
While a part-time degree program is challenging, it’s definitely worth it.

🌡️🏡 Keeping Cool Through the Summer: Natural Cooling for Future-Ready Buildings

How can homes remain comfortably cool in the future?

As climate change leads to more hot days and tropical nights, keeping residential buildings comfortable and energy-efficient is becoming an increasing challenge.

💡 Researchers at FH Salzburg’s Campus Kuchl are investigating how residential buildings can remain pleasantly temperate in the years to come. Their work focuses on cooling systems that use natural sources of cold, such as the ground or groundwater. 🌱

"These methods perform significantly better than split air-conditioning systems in terms of efficiency and operating costs. They can also perfectly complement traditional measures such as shading and night-time ventilation," explains Daniel Heidenthaler, researcher at the Department of Design and Green Engineering.

The research findings provide practical answers to the question of how buildings can remain comfortable, energy-efficient, and climate-resilient in the future. ☀️🏡

🎓 Our series continues!

For Lena Kainbrecht, design is about much more than aesthetics. After completing a Bachelor's degree in Timber Technology & Construction and a Master's degree in Design & Product Management at Campus Kuchl, Lena now combines technical expertise with creative thinking to drive sustainable change. 🌱✨

One of the most influential aspects of Lena’s studies was the exchange with fellow students. Different experiences, backgrounds and perspectives opened up new ways of thinking and demonstrated just how diverse sustainable solutions can be. 💡

For Lena, one thing is certain: the challenges of the future require creative solutions. Design can be a powerful lever in making them happen.

✨ Personal Experience Meets Technical Innovation

Helin has completed her Bachelor's degree in Code and Interactive Systems at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences! 🎓

With her app “Scan to Understand (S2U)”, she demonstrates how technology can help break down barriers. The application translates official documents, provides easy-to-understand summaries of key information, and keeps track of important deadlines.

Alongside her studies, Helin was actively involved in the Austrian Students' Union (ÖH) and is passionate about encouraging young women to pursue their educational goals with confidence. 💪
