"Tur Abdin - endangered Christian heritage" was the title of a talk by Dr. Aho Shemunkasho, held in Vienna for the St. Georgs-Orden. At the beginning of the evening Dr. Karl von Habsburg outlined his interest and concern in protecting and preserving Christian roots in Tur Abdin: “In Tur Abdin one can experience the roots of our Christian society in its original state, that includes the Aramaic language that Jesus spoke. Both belong to our cultural heritage and we are obliged to protect them.” Dr. Dr. Klaus Küng, former Bishop of St Pölten, spoke about the persecution, discrimination and displacement of Christians in different regions.
