arch-led teaching ranges from dynamic processes of the earth’s surface and landscape forms to the interactions of organisms with each other and with the physical environment and to the recording of biodiversity and its emergence at the cellular, organismal and ecosystem levels. Excellence in teaching of these subjects in schools is another research aspect of the department that is becoming increasingly important in today’s world. In addition to basic research with international cooperation partners, the focus is on application-oriented research in close cooperation with mostly regional non-university institutions. The focus is on the Alpine region, but is complemented by research in other climatic regions, including the tropics, the Mediterranean, and marine habitats.

Willkomen auf der Facebookseite des Fachbereichs Umwelt & Biodiversität an der Paris Lodron Universität Salzburg (PLUS)! Der Fachbereich „Umwelt & Biodiversität“ widmet sich hochaktuellen Fragen mit gesellschaftlicher Relevanz, wie der Klimakrise, dem weltweiten Biodiversitätsverlust und den in Schwere und Häufigkeit zunehmenden Naturkatastrophen. Das Themenspektrum der Forschung und der forschungsgeleiteten Lehre reicht von dynamischen Prozessen der Erdoberfläche und Landschaftsformen über die Wechselwirkungen von Organismen untereinander und mit der unbelebten Natur bis hin zur Erfassung der Biodiversität und ihrer Entstehung auf zellulärer, organismischer und ökosystemarer Ebene. Die adäquate schulische Vermittlung wissenschaftlicher Erkenntnisse in diesen Bereichen ist ein weiterer, in heutiger Zeit zunehmend wichtiger Forschungsaspekt des Fachbereichs. Schwerpunkte sind neben der Grundlagenforschung mit internationalen Kooperationspartnern die anwendungsorientierte Forschung in enger Zusammenarbeit mit meist regionalen außeruniversitären Einrichtungen. Der Alpenraum steht dabei im Fokus, wird aber ergänzt durch Forschung in weiteren klimatischen Regionen, u.a.
