JASEC - TU Wien

JASEC - TU Wien Interdisciplinary support unit for the coordination of scientific exchange between the faculties of

The Japan Austria Science Exchange Center (JASEC) coordinates the scientific cooperation between all faculties of TU Wien and Japanese partner institutions. In addition to fostering the mobility of researchers and teaching staff JASEC also supports students of both countries in the framework of university partnerships. The difference in language, mentality and curricula are sometimes barriers for

an active exchange. However, the long-lasting and very successful cooperation of the TU Wien with Japanese partner institutions provides evidence that these barriers can be overcome. Since the first agreement with the University of Tokyo was signed in 1981, TU Wien has continuously expanded its network to a total of 14 Japanese partner institutions.

It was a pleasure to welcome colleagues from the Nagoya Institute of Technology to TU Wien last week. 🇯🇵🤝🇦🇹

Our discussions focused on strengthening the long-standing partnership between NITech and TU Wien. In particular, we explored ways to intensify academic cooperation and significantly increase student exchange opportunities at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels.
International collaboration and mobility are essential for educating the next generation of engineers and researchers. We are excited about the next steps in expanding this partnership and creating more opportunities for students from both universities.
A big thank you to our colleagues from NITech for the inspiring exchange and for visiting Vienna!

Dear Partners and Friends,
As the year draws to a close, the Japan Austria Science Exchange Center would like to extend our warmest season’s greetings and sincere thanks to you. Your continued collaboration and support have been vital in strengthening the scientific ties between Austria and Japan.

In 2025, we were proud to support several key activities, most notably TU Wien’s strong contribution to in Osaka, where Austrian research and innovation were presented to an international audience. JASEC also hosted a partner meeting at the Expo Austria Pavilion, providing an inspiring platform for exchange and future collaboration. Another highlight was the Japan Science Day @ TU Wien, which once again brought together researchers, institutions, and early-career scientists to discuss opportunities and perspectives in bilateral research cooperation.

We are grateful for the trust and engagement of our partners and look forward to continuing our joint efforts in the coming year.

With best wishes for a peaceful holiday season and a successful New Year,

The JASEC Team
