The curtains have gracefully fallen on the 2023 edition of CDRC Vienna - The IBA-VIAC Mediation & Negotiation Competition and what a grande finale it was! The stunning Rathaus of Vienna provided the perfect setting for the unforgettable Final Banquet! ✨ Heartfelt thanks to the organizers, and especially Ema Potocnik Thomas John, MCIArb and all the volunteers, for making this a not only professionally but also personally enriching event! Being part of this was a rewarding experience that allowed us to grow beyond ourselves and forge connections with exceptionally skilled link-minded individuals – students and professionals alike! 😊

We are absolutely delighted with the excellent results we achieved at the competition!
🌟 Our Mediators Team – Daria Ionas and Kiana Khorramian – not only made it to the semifinals but also clinched an impressive 4th place among a formidable field of teams.
🌟 Likewise, our exceptional Negotiators Team – Susana Nistor, Ilaria Beretta, Antonia Voit and Moritz Freimüller – showcased their skills, securing a spot in the semifinals and finishing with an impressive 4th place out of the numerous teams that participated.
A big thank you goes out to all the participating teams for their exceptional efforts in keeping the level of negotiations high throughout the competition! 🙌 Congratulations are in order for the winning universities whose performances stood out: USP - Universidade de São Paulo, University of Sydney and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam)

In particular, however, we want to express out gratitude to our esteemed coaches, Barbara Reintjes and Larissa Alterdinger, whose vast knowledge and guidance played a crucial role in our moot court journey! In addition, we want to thank all the experts who have taken their time to help us improve: Margareta Miel Adenike McGuinn, ulrich wanderer, Hanita Veljan, Johannes Juranek, Felipe Glioche and Pascal Comvalius. All of your support made all the difference in our performance. 🙏
A special thank you goes also to CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz for their steady support of our team. Your backing is instrumental for us to progress! 🤝

We are very proud that we went so far, and we are already looking forward to our next challenge… the journey keeps going for our team taking part to the IIMC Colombo in Sri Lanka. 🇱🇰

We are pleased and proud to announce that our Negotiators Team (Antonia Voit, Ilaria Beretta, Susana Nistor and Moritz Freimüller) has advanced to the semi finals at CDRC Vienna - The IBA-VIAC Mediation & Negotiation Competition! 🥳

A big thank you to our coaches Larissa Alterdinger and Barbara Reintjes for their constant support in the preparation, and also to CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz for supporting our moot court journey.

We are looking forward to our next session tomorrow!

📣 CDRC Vienna - The IBA-VIAC Mediation & Negotiation Competition preliminary rounds had a start on Saturday, and our team has been enjoying their performances as well as meeting the other teams!
We are happy to announce that our Mediators Team (Kiana Khorramian, Daria Ionas) advanced to the semi finals, and our Negotiators Team (Antonia Voit, Ilaria Beretta, Susana Nistor, Moritz Freimüller) advanced to the quarter finals!

Congratulations to all the other teams!

We are looking forward to demonstrating our in the next rounds, and we will do our best to implement the valuable feedback of all the assessors!

On Tuesday our team had the chance to visit the beautiful CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz office in Vienna.
We were lucky enough to have a pleasant conversation and a fruitful practice session with Dr. Johannes Juranek who provided us with useful feedbacks to further implement our skills.
We are very thankful to CMS for their continued precious support to our team!

+++ Meet the negotiators +++

Today: Moritz Freimüller

Moritz is a twenty-five-year-old law student at the University of Vienna, where he worked as a tutor for several years. He is currently doing an exchange at SciencesPo Paris for one year, specializing in International Law and Diplomacy. After attending negotiation courses there, he discovered his passion for dispute resolutions in all its different forms. Before studying in Vienna, he was working for an NGO in remotely situated villages in the Himalaya in Nepal. Moritz likes to go skiing and loves to travel. He is fluent in German and English and has a good command in French.

Today: Susana Nistor

Susana is a twenty-five year old law student at the University of Vienna. Having discovered her passion for mediation and negotiation in the fall of 2022 while attending a university course, Susana is eager to practise and develop her skills in this field of law, as well as gain experience on an international level. Aside from being a student, Susana works part-time in a law firm as a legal assistant. In her free time, Susana is an avid reader, art lover and practises sports, especially running. Being born in Romania, Susanas` native tongue is Romanian, she is also fluent in English and German.

Today: Antonia Voit

Antonia is a twenty-three year old law student from Vienna. In her studies she focused on alternative dispute resolution. Her passion for mediation and negotiation started at a young age as she successfully completed the peer mediation training during high school. After school she volunteered for a semester in a children's home in South Africa. In the summer of 2022, she participated in the CDRC Vienna - The IBA-VIAC competition and won second place as a mediator. In addition, she has successfully participated in competitions such as the ICC Paris International Commercial Mediation Competition and the Bucerius Mediation Competiton. Antonia is currently working in a law firm as a legal assistant, where she specializes in civil law. In her free time, she enjoys doing sports, listening to podcasts and travelling with friends. She is fluent in English, German and has a good command of French and Italian.

Today: Ilaria Beretta

Ilaria is a twenty-three year old law student at Università Cattolica in Milan, with a particular interest in international and commercial law. The participation in the 29th Vis Moot has increased her passion towards alternative dispute resolution, together with her motivation in gaining practical and international experience. Ilaria is currently spending her last semester as an Erasmus student at University of Vienna, while coaching Università Cattolica’s Vis Moot team. In her free time she likes doing sports, cooking and discovering cultures. She is fluent in Italian and English, and has a quite good command of French and German.

Today: Daria Jonas

Daria is a twenty-three year old law student at the University of Vienna, specializing in mediation and international law and relations. Since moving to Austria at the age of fourteen she has constantly been in contact with some form of mediation or negotiation. She attended numerous national and international sessions of the Model European Parliament (MEP) in high school where she negotiated resolutions for the European Parliament together with delegates from all over Europe. Additionally, she joined the Vienna Model United Nations Club for a challenging and fun way to debate current topics. Daria is fluent in Romanian, German and English and in her free time she loves to play volleyball, read, travel and meet with friends

Today: Kiana Khorramian

Kiana is a 21-year-old law student from Salzburg and currently living in Vienna. She has developed special interests in International Legal Practice and Language (ILPL), as well as Mediation. Next to her studies, she is working in a commercial law firm. Additionally, Kiana is also a part of the European Law Students Association (ELSA) Vienna as the Vice President for Seminars and Conferences. In this position she is responsible for organizing a multitude of events, such as the Summer ELSA Law School, which focuses on Dispute Resolution. Kiana is fluent in German, Farsi and English and she likes going to the gym, playing volleyball and tennis and spending time with her family and friends.

📣 Exciting Announcement: University of Vienna's Mediation and Negotiation Team Embarks on a New ADR Mooting Adventure!

We are thrilled to share an exciting update from our team and to announce that both – our negotiator team as well as our mediator team – have been selected to participate in the renowned IBA-VIAC CDRC Mediation and Negotiation Competition 2023. This highly anticipated event is scheduled to take place in Vienna from 8th to 12th July 2023.

Join us on our journey! In the coming weeks, we are looking forward to share with you our experience, by taking you along every step of the way. To kick things off, we'd like to start by introducing our talented new team members and our dedicated coaches, who support the team with their skills and expertise. And finally, the moment we've been eagerly waiting for – the competition itself!

Also, we are pleased that we have CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz on board again! Thank you very much, we highly appreciate your ongoing support.

Hard work pays off – we are pleased to announce that the Vienna ADR Mediation and Negotiation Competition Team 2023, made up of Teresa Sihler, Lukas Klewein, Antonia Voit and Ludovico Russo, managed to achieve a distinction in the category ‘Mediation Plan’. With this, we were awarded as the team with the best prepared mediation plan out of 48 participating teams. ✨🎉

This success honours the many hours we as a team put into the preparation and pleases us very much - thank you very much!

We also want to congratulate the winning team from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad and our colleagues from New York Law School for their impressive performance in the final round of the competition!

Of course none of this would have been possible without the many volunteers, that were facilitating this competition and the great work of the organising team, as well as their sponsors Clifford Chance ADR ODR International Limited, European Institute for Conflict Resolution, Cardozo School of Law, International Mediation Campus, JAMS, Mediator Academy, RESOLVE Mediators, CME Mediation in Latin America, J.S.
