DRC Summer School

The DRC Summer School project was initiated by IDM (Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe) and International House Pécs in 2003 to promote regional co-operation among young social scientists. Its general aim is the establishment of a network of young scientists who deal with the issue of regional co-operation as Central European perspective, and thus the institutionalisation of the Summer School for the future.

What an intense and inspiring week this has been!

After a two-year Covid-break, we were finally able to meet for the 17th DRC Summer School in Vienna, Austria! Together, we discussed the Future of in the Region and how we can guarantee University autonomy and academic freedom, improve students’ engagement and promote policy-making through innovative learning methods. 🎓🧠📚

Alongside the lectures, we also attended the FIFUDEM Final Conference, produced a podcast episode, went on a field trip to the picturesque Wachau valley and had amazing dinner at the typical Austrian Heuriger. 🍷⛴

👉We are thrilled to announce the project funded by the Danube Rectors' Conference and coordinated by the University of Maribor: the DRC Initiative Fund!

🌐As a part of a wider framework of the (EUSDR), especially in the field of the priority area "Knowledge society", The Danube Rectors' Conference offers students of doctoral study programmes at DRC member universities the possibility to obtain financial means for developing applicants' projects, solutions, prototypes.

In the focus of this project are three targets of the :

1️⃣. Increase the number of innovations, official inventions of EPO and PCT patent applications
2️⃣. Increase cooperation and mobility in the field of research and education
3️⃣. Increase the number of joint publications on research results.

📣We are prepared to support outstanding students and young scholars' projects which can have a positive impact in the region, in line with the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), by financing different kinds of activities.

👉The available financial means for projects is 50,000 EUR, and it is envisioned that no more than 25 applications will be accepted for funding, or a maximum of 5,000 EUR may be granted per application. Furthermore, whereas candidates applying for the target area one and three (innovation and joint publication) may receive financial resources up to 2,000 EUR, for the target area two (cooperation and mobility) the maximum amount of financial support is 1,000 EUR. If projects apply to all three target areas, the maximum attainable amount is 5,000 EUR.

📢 WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT
In the third year of the Sharing Future Scholarship sponsored by DRC - Danube Rectors' Conference we reiceived 33 applications from artists and artist duos, so the selection process proved to be a difficult task. First of all, thanks to the artists from all over the world for their diverse project ideas and their interest in working in Ruse for a month.

This year's scholarship goes to the German-Romanian author and playwright Thomas Perle. Congratulations! He will be in Ruse for a month in September and October to realize his multilingual project "donauwellen". During his stay, he will work on a piece around the Danube, a river rich in history, and collect voices from people living near the Danube. We are happy to welcome Thomas Perle in Ruse and are excited about his project!
