“For an antiracist decolonial, feminist politics of protection." Very excited to share that we will be hosting two lectures by Françoise Vergès and Teresa Awe, who translated Françoise's book on A Feminist Theory of Violence into German, eine feministische Theorie der Gewalt. Please join us on March 6 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna at Schillerplatz at the so-called Sitzungssaal.
Françoise Vergès will speak about the following: There is no fight against s*xist and s*xual violence without a critique of the violence promoted and legitimized by the state and racial patriarcal capitalism. Neoliberal policies organise the abandonment of public services; the state privatises and militarises protection; the racialized, the poor, the young, the s*x workers, the migrants, the refugees are criminalised, bodies that can be sacrificed. Françoise Vergès will discuss these policies and what are antiracist, decolonial feminist politics of protection.
Teresa Awa, who translated Françoise Vergès book into German under the title Eine feministische Theorie der Gewalt, will speak about the following: A lot of feminist and decolonial activism is based around text - theories and stories that help us understand different forms of oppression, share knowledge and inspire us to imagine other possible futures.
But while social struggles, lived experiences and analyses of systematic injustice are connected all across the globe, they are also locally situated in their very own specific contexts, histories and languages.
Translation is a work that mediates not only between languages but also the cultural and social framework that the translated texts are situated in. Which texts are being translated and into which languages? Who is translating, and which words do we use from one language to another? Teresa Awa will explore what it can mean to translate as a decolonial feminist practice.
The event is co-organized by the Program for Art and Education Fachbereich Kunst und Bildung - Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien and the Institut für Kunst und Kulturwissenschaften.

Living on the Intersection of Kink, Consent & Race: A Talk with Mollena Lee Williams-Haas

As an African-American Alternative Sexuality Educator, Writer, Performer and Muse, Mollena Lee Williams-Haas possesses a unique perspective and over 27 years of experience in the B**M, Kink and Leather Lifestyle. The talk will center on her thoughts and experiences as a woman of color navigating the chaos of consensual power exchange as she lives it every day. How and why can the experience and knowledge from kinky communities benefit to interested audience beyond this context?

About the speaker:
Mollena Lee Williams-Hass aka the "Delicate, Trembling Flower of Submission" is an NYC-born and raised writer, actress, B**M Educator, Storyteller, sobriety fiend since March 14th, 2007, and an Award-Winning Executive Pervert. Mollena fervently believes that so much of what we do in B**M, Kink and Leather is of benefit to everyone! As the Kink Doula, her mission and calling is to share as much as she possibly can, and in doing so, facilitate for others the rebirth and growth that she has herself experienced through Kink.

About the moderator:
Sara Ablinger is a Vienna based q***r, fat activist, bodyworker and workshop facilitator specialised in body positivity & body acceptance, consent culture, intimacy and conscious s*xuality. She creates spaces of empowerment, authenticity, connection, pleasure and healing, focusing on the empowerment and participation of marginalised bodies such as q***r, fat, disabled bodies.

The talk will be held in English.
The talk is organized and financed by the Equal Opportunities Team (AfG), Gender&Space Professorship and the Institute for Education in the Arts.

Pink crusade against femicides!

The Aufstand der Schwestern (Revolt of the Sisters) calls for joint protest and commemoration!
Join us while we drag a giant pink wooden cross (3m x 1.5m) from the Mariahilf Advent Market to Josef-Meinrad-Platz. (opposite City Hall and near Heldenplatz) At Josef-Meinrad-Platz, a brutal sound collage awaits us and the performance reaches its climax. There, 30 roof nails are hammered into the cross on behalf of the murdered people. The act of hammering in translates the physical violence of the murders into the art action.

Meeting point:
22.12.21 13:00 sharp (!) at the Adventmarkt Mariahilf (Kirchengasse / corner Mariahilferstraße).
Dress code:
Black clothes. No transpis, but FFP2-masks!

The Aufstand der Schwestern acts and agitates for those who can no longer speak. We make the murdered visible and audible through art in public space. Sister does not mean biological kinship but builds on the solidary Sisterhood vibe of the Second Women's Movement. We understand sister as a concept of art for all women, no matter what gender was assigned at birth.
Our plea: we are all sisters, no matter where we come from or what our gender identity is. We need cohesion and empowerment in the struggle against prevailing circumstances!
