Sommerhochschule - University of Vienna

Sommerhochschule - University of Vienna All courses are held in English. The European Studies courses are held in English and focus on Europe and the European Union.

The Sommerhochschule’s mission is to provide first class academic courses on European Law, Politics, Economics, History, and Culture in an international and intercultural setting. The univie: summer school offers four weeks of European Studies and cultural exchange at Lake Wolfgang and the univie: winter school offers two weeks of Cultural Historical Studies in Vienna. They cover political, econom

ic and legal, but also historical and cultural aspects of the multiple transformations the continent is currently undergoing. The program thus offers a concise and up to date introduction to recent developments in Europe which will provide students from different fields of study with additional key qualifications for their future professional work. The four week program consists of two two-week sessions. There is a choice amongst twelve European Studies courses and four levels of German. European Studies courses last two weeks (4 ECTS each). German Language courses last four weeks (8 ECTS each). The winter program courses provide a well-structured introduction into one of the most fascinating periods of Austria's intellectual history in a short time. The culture of the fin-de-siècle is one of the highlights in the history of the Habsburg Monarchy. The univie: winter school for cultural-historical studies offers six courses with 4 ECTS credits per course (corresponding to 32 contact hours). Each contact hour consists of 45 minutes classroom teaching. The Austrian Arbitration Academy during the summer is an intensive two-week program on international commercial arbitration for both regular students of the univie: summer school of International and European Studies and participants who take part only in this special arbitration program. The Arbitration Winter Program - Arbitration Rules in Practice is an intensive, four-day program on international commercial arbitration from an institutional perspective, jointly organized by the Vienna International Arbitral Centre, the Young Austrian Arbitration Practitioners, and the Austrian Arbitration Association. The course takes place in Vienna and will consist of a taught module and participation in the Vienna Arbitration Days.
