Lee University’s Dr. Heather Lewis Quagliana, associate professor of psychology, was a headlining speaker at the Focus 2019 Church of God Kidmin Leadership Training Conference.

Lee University’s Dr. Bryan Poole, assistant professor of psychology, Dr. Bob Fisher, professor of psychology, and nine students from Lee’s psychology program recently attended and presented at the Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA) conference in Jacksonville, Florida.



These nine students included Sarah Brock, Oliver Conn, Vanessa Eller, Elise Haynes, Vince Johnson, Elizabeth Martin, Hannah Miller, Rachel Rutledge, and Emma Taggart.



Poole presented a poster, “Student and faculty perceptions of poor teaching,” on research he conducted with Lee student Mary Sargent last year.



Lee students presented on a variety of topics, including “Manipulating faith and colorblind racism,” “Shame and attachment style,” “The power of words: Effect of self-talk on self-perception,” and more.



Two of the students, Conn and Haynes, presented a poster on the work Lee has done through the Synergistic Undergraduate Mathematics via Multi-Institutional Interdisciplinary Teaching Partnerships (SUMMIT-P) grant, which Lee received in 2016 from the National Science Foundation. According to Poole, Lee’s work involves pairing math and social sciences majors together to learn from one another through a series of structured activities.



“This conference was an excellent opportunity for psychology students at Lee to have a chance to showcase their research and gain academic experience,” said Poole.
