Is liberal society in crisis, or simply at a crossroads?
Last Thursday, the 6th event of our Presidential Lecture Series welcomed Steffen Mau, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Political and Social Science and Professor of Macrosociology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, for a lecture titled "Societies of Change, Societies of Crisis? On the Contestations of the Liberal Model."
Mau examined the symptoms of crisis affecting the liberal model of society today, drawing on his work on inequality, political polarization, and social change. His latest book, Trigger Points: Inequality and Political Polarization in Contemporary Society, explores exactly these themes.
The evening took place at the Wien Museum, where Director Matti Bunzl welcomed the audience and highlighted the museum's growing collaboration with CEU through their joint museum studies program, now in its third year. Hosted by CEU Interim President and Rector Carsten Q. Schneider.
