Last week our team travelled to Prague, Czech Republic, to participate at the 24th Annual Congress of the European Public Relations Education and Research Association (EUPRERA). The topic of Responsible Communication and the beautiful Hollar building of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University were the perfect context to share our latest research with the PR academic community.

The Corporate Communication Research Group was represented with 5 papers:

- "Authentic Employee Appreciation: The Role of Internal
Communication in Fostering an Appreciative Work Environment“ by Julia Stranzl and Christopher Ruppel

- "A Situational Perspective on Employee Activism - Examining the Role of Symmetrical Internal Communication“ by Neda Ninova-Solovykh, Ingrid Wahl, and Sabine Einwiller

- "What Is Published About Employee Communication Regarding LGBT+: A Scoping Review of Quantitative Research“ by Ingrid Wahl, Magdalena Siegel, and Sabine Einwiller

- "Behind The Scenes Of CEO Activism: Perspectives From Communication Practitioners“ by Vanja Bojanic

- "Communicating About Controversial Issues – The Case Of Halal Offerings In The Food Retail And Banking Sectors In Germany And Austria" by Samira Rahimi Mavi and Sabine Einwiller

It was our pleasure to meet and talk with all the great colleagues in Prague. Big thanks to the organizers for this successful conference!

We had a great time at the 27th International Conference on Corporate and Marketing Communications (CMC2024) presenting our research on "Communicating about halal products to non-Muslim consumers" (for which we received the best paper award), "What is known about employee communication regarding LGBT+: A scoping review" and "Agile integrated communication: A content-based approach".
Next year, CMC will be hosted from March 25th (evening) to March 27th by ourselves in Vienna on the theme “Valuing Diversity in Corporate and Marketing Communications: Towards an Inclusive Corporate and Market Environment”. For more details and the list of open tracks visit https://cmc2024.univie.ac.at/. We will also issue a call for papers on the conference theme for a special issue in the Journal of Marketing Communications.

Hosting the 23rd annual congress was a great experience! We very much enjoyed having many wonderful colleagues and friends come to Vienna, or join the congress online, in order to present and discuss their research and thoughts on Public Relations in the Risk Society. We didn’t only have excellent presentations and discussions, but also a lot of fun during the congress and especially at the dinner, dance and walking tours.

The 2022 edition of the world’s longest running empirical study on current and future developments in strategic communication and public relations has been published today. The European Communication Monitor surveyed communication professionals in 43 countries, producing the following highlights:

– Diversity, equality and inclusion are influencing organisational policies and communications worldwide – but only every second communicator in Europe has closely followed global trends and discussions in this area

– Most practitioners have experienced empathic traits from communication leaders; this has a significant positive impact on commitment, engagement and mental health

– To date, very few communication departments have established an advanced use of CommTech to digitalise internal workflows and communication activities – organisational structures are identified as the main obstacle to rapid transformation

– Quality of consulting in communications is difficult to achieve; three out of four respondents would like to see appropriate standards that cover either consultants, clients themselves or both groups

– The study reveals significant differences between countries as well as between companies and non-profits across Europe

Great evening out with (almost) the whole CCom team, our former team members Jens Seiffert-Brockmann and Wolfgang Weitzl, and our guest Sora Kim at Weinbau Leitner. After three years, Sora could finally come to Vienna again, teach in our doctoral program, and -importantly- join us for an evening out with delicious food and wine overlooking Vienna.
