Although we might not have anything lined up for this Friday, that doesn't mean theres nothing to do because our friends at ANU Za-Kabuki have returned with...
"Shibaraku: Wait a Moment!" the 47th annual performance.
Shibaraku" is renowned as one of the “Famous Juuhachi-ban", one of the 18 classic Kabuki plays traditionally performed by members of the Ichikawa family. And now, this is your opportunity to experience it in Canberra, at ANU!
The story of Shibaraku is set in front of the Tsuruoka Hachimangu shrine, where an evil aristocrat Kiyohara no Takehira has usurped power and taken as prisoners several imperial royals, including the prince Yosh*tsuna and the princess Katsura no Mae. When it seems the bad guys have won and all hope is lost, a tremendous shout “Shibaraku! (Wait a moment!)” can be heard loudly from behind the agemaku curtain.
Opening night features an exclusive photo booth for audience members, run by the Japanese embassy. Our beloved former events directo has been slaving away day in and day out to make sure all major characters have been brought to life! So be sure to check it out!!
