Proud moments and happy tears marked our first ever graduation ceremonies as thousands of our graduating students celebrated their achievements with family and friends 🎉

A total of 18 ceremonies took place over the past fortnight, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of our 4,500 new graduates 🎓

Thank you to everyone who helped make these ceremonies such special occasions, with lifelong memories made among our university community ✨

To our new graduates we wish you all the best for an exciting future ahead, today is just the start 💜

Congratulations to Adelaide University athlete Victoria, who crossed a finishing line of a different kind this week, on the stage, majoring in High-Performance Computational Physics at one of Adelaide University’s first ever graduation ceremonies 🎓 🎓 💜

As well as regularly representing Adelaide University at the UniSport Nationals, the Bachelor of Science (Hons) graduate also represented Australia in the Oceania Championships earlier this year, achieving a silver medal in the Women’s 800 metres🏃‍♀️🥈

Balancing training and studies has not always been a breeze, but through a consistent routine, making strong friendships and having the incredible support of Adelaide University Athletics Club, Victoria made it work.

Now, having started work as a medical physics technician, Victoria hopes to further her qualifications in this area, in the future.

“I think it can be a bit daunting trying new things or even reaching out to people you haven’t met but you never know if you don’t try! It took me until my second year to become involved in sport at university, and I regret not doing it sooner.”

Congratulations to happy couple Dr Erica Ghezzi and Dr Jake Guzzetti on achieving their PhDs to become doctors at one of Adelaide University’s first ever graduation ceremonies 🎓 🎓 💜

Friday night board games, bouldering sessions at the gym, and the mutual support they gave each other throughout their studies brought Erica and Jake close together, eventually leading to their graduation at the same ceremony today.

Both have achieved PhDs in psychology; Erica explored risk factors for delirium and cognitive decline in older adults, while Jake investigated sleep measurement in continuous 24/7 operational environments.

As to their futures, Erica is continuing her work in disability research and evidence-based policy, while Jake is pursuing postdoctoral research and teaching.

“Be open to the opportunities that present themselves to you along the way. You never know where you’ll end up at the end of it all,” Erica says.

The latest episode of AU in Conversation is here 🎙️ 💜

Vice Chancellor and President Professor Nicola Phillips is joined by Professor Emma Baker and Kira Page to discuss housing, health and the future of fairness.

Housing is rarely out of the headlines, whether the focus is affordability, rental stress or the struggle many young Australians face in entering the property market. Yet, as this conversation reveals, housing is about much more than houses. It shapes our health, wellbeing, opportunities and sense of security throughout life.

The conversation explores several challenging questions. Why are some housing experiences associated with markedly different health outcomes? And if we need more homes, what is preventing us from building them at the scale and speed required?

Emma is Professor of Housing Research at Adelaide University and founding Director of the Australian Centre for Housing Research. Kira is a PhD student whose work examines changing housing pathways, with a focus on rentvesting. Together, they offer evidence-based insights into one of Australia's most complex policy challenges. 🏡

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! 🌕

Falling when the moon is at its fullest and brightest, the Mid-Autumn Festival is traditionally a time for family, gratitude, and togetherness.

We celebrated with 700+ students last night at an event at our Adelaide City campus featuring:

🎶 Performances from the Adelaide Chinese Dance Academy and more

🥟 Dumplings, mooncakes, and bubble tea

🏮 Cultural stalls showcasing traditions from across the East and Southeast Asia region

A big thank you to the Chinese Students and Scholars Club, the Australia-China Youth Association, the Australia-Indonesia Youth Association, the Indonesian Students Association Adelaide University, the Singapore Association, the Adelaide University Japanese Club, and the Adelaide University Malaysian Students Association for their partnership in bringing this event to life 🤝

Team AU showed up in a big way at the City to Bay! 🙌

We were proud to represent 500 members of our community at this year’s City-Bay Fun Run - and what an incredible turnout!

From the 3km and 6km to the 12km and half marathon, students, staff and members of our wider Adelaide Uni community came together to get moving, challenge themselves and cross the finish line as Team AU! 💜

A huge thank you to everyone who laced up and got involved, and to Adelaide University Sport & Fitness and Bupa Australia for helping bring Team AU to life at one of Adelaide’s biggest community events.

Australia’s National Day of Action is a reminder that every day is the day to ask, “Are you OK?”

Our Student Wellbeing & Safety teams were out earlier this week at Mawson Lakes, Waite, Magill, Adelaide City - West, and today at Adelaide City - East, Hub Central Thursday 10 September. Come along to connect, share a treat and access support, while taking a moment to check in with each other 🙌

We’re proud to introduce our initiative providing free period products across our campuses, helping make essential products more accessible to students when they need them 💜

We were delighted to welcome Katrine Hildyard MP, Minister for Women, to campus, joined by our Vice Chancellor Prof Nicola Phillips and Director of Student Wellbeing and Safety Natasha Boots to showcase the initiative and see the dispensers in action. Thanks to our partners TABOO Period Products and Bupa Australia Healthy Universities Fund for helping bring this initiative to life.

No student should have to worry about accessing period products while they’re on campus. Free pads and tampons are now available in dispensers across our campus bathrooms, helping ensure students can access these essential products when they need them, with the rollout continuing to more locations.

We’ve already received wonderful feedback from students, reinforcing the positive impact this initiative is having and our commitment to tackling period poverty and removing barriers to students’ health, wellbeing and participation.

We’ve got you, period! 🙌
