We're coming together for our first National Reconciliation Week as Adelaide University - Tirkangkaku 🖤💛❤️

This year’s theme, “All In”, invites everyone to reflect, learn and take meaningful action towards reconciliation and across our university throughout the week there are opportunities, including craft activities and cultural experiences, which will enable our community to do just that.

We encourage everyone to get involved and participate.

Last week, we launched two new GeoEnergy Laboratory facilities focused on advancing research, education and innovation in energy sustainability 🔬⚡

The GeoEnergy and Storage Laboratory is located at our Adelaide City Campus and will enable high-resolution analysis of how CO₂ and hydrogen can be safely stored in geological formations, supporting the future of low carbon energy.

The Geomodelling Laboratory recreates Earth processes such as landscape change and plate tectonics, supporting research, education and outreach from primary school through to university level 🌋🪨

These facilities will help drive cutting-edge research in energy security and sustainability, made possible through the support of the SA Government , bp, Chevron, and Beach Energy.

The launch brought together leaders from across industry, research and government, and we look forward to the discoveries ahead 🚀

We’re proud to have partnered with Tasting Australia this year, hosting five exclusive masterclasses and events showcasing our alumni expertise and immersing guests in the world of viticulture and oenology 🍷

From iconic Rieslings and world-class sparkling wines to elegant terra rossa reds, each experience celebrated the innovation and global impact of Adelaide University graduates shaping Australia’s wine industry.

Highlights included:

🍽️ Yum and Yarn – A Waite Campus experience led by Yuandamarra of Red Centre Enterprises with our academics Dr Kate Delaporte, Dr James Cowley, Bill Hirt and Tina Bianco-Miotto, exploring native Australian foods through guided tastings and conversation connecting culture, flavour, science and storytelling.

🐟 Marine Menu – A masterclass blending marine science, zoology and seafood tasting, exploring South Australia’s marine life and the algal bloom, featuring Assoc Prof Zoe Doubleday and Alison Turnbull, with a seafood lunch by chef Victor Liong.

🍷 AU Iconic – A series of wine masterclasses with acclaimed alumni winemakers and premium cheese pairings.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Tasting Australia this year to share in these experiences with our academics, alumni, and industry leaders. We look forward to welcoming you again next year 🥂

Happy National Volunteer Week! Thank you to the 2,500 Adelaide University volunteers within our community who are making a difference to our students’ lives 💗

Nimali, Linh and Matilda are among the 33 volunteers in our Student Wellbeing Advisory Group (SWAG), responsible for partnering in projects and activities that contribute to the wellbeing of the student community, including Orientation and R U OK? Day.

“These events are good reminders to take care of yourself, mentally, physically and spiritually and to ask others how they are,” Linh says.

“SWAG provides a wholesome space to make connections.”

Congratulations to three Adelaide University students who will spend several months in Southeast Asia expanding their leadership skills through the Westpac Australia–Asia Fellowship 🌏

Alecia Gee, a PhD student working in green chemistry, Lily Bosland (Bachelor of Arts/Language) and Thomas Neville (Bachelor of Business/Commerce) are among those who have been awarded fellowships this year.

They will now participate in a nine-month leadership program, which includes two residential programs across four Southeast Asian countries.

For Alecia, it’s an opportunity to build connections across the region and explore solutions to shared challenges.

“I believe Australia’s biotech industry has much to gain by leveraging the strengths and infrastructure of our Asia-Pacific trading partners,” Alecia says.

“I’m particularly interested in understanding how these collaborations create value, and how I can apply those insights to shape my research and career.

“I also look forward to connecting with like-minded students and professionals who share a passion for leveraging Australia’s position within the Asia-Pacific.”

We are proud to celebrate the opening of the Kaurna Yarning Circle at Waite Campus today 🖤💛❤️

More than 100 attended the event which began with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by proud Kaurna men Luke Wilson and Rivva Karpany.

With solid foundations in respect for culture and community, this is the second Yarning Circle to have opened at Adelaide University - Tirkangkaku this year, complementing our first at Roseworthy Campus, which opened in February.

The Yarning Circle’s features include a form of the screens which, collectively, spell out the word KAURNA in capital letters.

We look forward to seeing this beautiful space grow and thrive in the years to come, as a place for gathering, storytelling, learning, and connection.

Happy World Health Day!

This year’s theme is 'Together for health. Stand with science' and OneHealth@AdelaideUniversity is a perfect example.

Uniting expertise across all disciplines to address complex and emerging challenges, OneHealth@AdelaideUniversity aims to tackle the big issues that face the health of humans, animals and the environment 🙋🏻‍♀️🦒🌻

Their vision is for a healthy, resilient world for all living things and their environments

Right now, OneHealth@AdelaideUniversity are currently working on:

🦁 Greater Kruger One Health Elective: Final-year veterinary students travel to South Africa to gain real-world exposure to wildlife, public health, and biosecurity challenges near Kruger National Park. From investigating zoonotic diseases to empowering local communities, this transformative hands on experience builds the next generation of global One Health leaders.

🪸 Reef restoration: The harmful algal bloom in South Australia highlights the One Health connection between the environment and the health of people. New funding to restore shellfish reefs across South Australia will help rebuild healthier ecosystems and healthier communities.

Over 500 students and staff came together this week at Pridham Hall to mark the end of Ramadan, Islam’s most holy month, and to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 🙌

We extend our warmest wishes to students, staff, partners and friends who celebrate Eid. We acknowledge this year’s celebration has come during a time of uncertainty and anguish for many in our community, as the conflict in the Middle East escalates, and encourage anyone affected to connect with the University’s wellbeing services.

We invite all in our community to come together to reflect on the messages of unity and connection that Ramadan represents 💜
