We would like to acknowledge FHMRI Sleep Health PhD Candidate Rajani Khanal who won the "Best 3MT" Competition at the 11th Biennial Australia and New Zealand Falls Prevention Conference, hosted by Australia and New Zealand Fall Prevention Society. The conference theme this year was “Bridging the Gap: Research to Implementation”. 👏🎉✨

Rajani's PhD examines multiple datasets from around the world to understand how poor sleep contributes to physical decline in older adults. Her work also includes a randomised controlled trial investigating whether treating obstructive sleep apnoea with CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) can reduce fall risk. Collectively, her research emphasises the role of sleep health as a key factor in healthy ageing and fall prevention.

We are so proud to announce the winners of the inaugural FHMRI Sleep Health Early Career Researcher Seed Grant in 2025. This award has been funded by the Flinders University Flagship program, with generous donations from donors including FHMRI Sleep Health (AISH) founder, Emeritus Professor Doug McEvoy, who presented the award at our recent planning day. Congratulations to Dr Dayna Easton, Dr Alicia Lander and Dr Ashley Montero for their successful application entitled: GLEAM: Guided Light and Exercise for Alertness Management

This initiative is designed to support emerging investigators at a pivotal stage in their careers, providing them with the resources needed to pursue novel, high-impact research in the field of sleep health. Early-stage funding of this kind plays a vital role in enabling early career researchers to develop their ideas, generate preliminary data, and build the foundation necessary for future competitive grant applications.

We are deeply grateful to the donors whose generosity makes this program possible, and to the researchers whose work will shape the future of sleep science.
