Alhamdulillah.
Two Iqra students have placed nationally in the Arabic Reading Challenge.
Deyaa Al-Dirini, Year 3, finished third in Australia. Hamza Bay, Year 10, finished in the top ten.
The challenge asks students to read Arabic books on their own and show they have understood them. Deyaa is in Year 3 and reading at a level that put him third in the country. Hamza reached the national top ten in Year 10.
Our students come from homes where Arabic is a first language and homes where it is not. Both are sitting in the same class, and both are placing nationally. That happens because Arabic is taught here every year from Reception to Year 10, as a language to be read and used, not a subject to get through.
Barakallahu feekum to our Arabic teachers, to every student who took part, and to the parents behind them.

Alhamdulillah.

Imran, Eusoph and Ayaan have won first place in Australia in the Year 5/6 category of ANSTO's Think Science competition for Cool the School.

The boys spent two terms working out how to cool their own school. Which materials hold heat, which release it, why one classroom bakes and another stays bearable. They stayed back after school up to twice a week from Term 1, running lab tests, then filming and re-filming until the science came out right.

Their findings went to the school. They also went to ANSTO.

The win brings $1,000 of science resources into our primary science program.

Barakallahu feekum to Sr Harlyn, who led this from the first week, and to everyone who gave this their time.

There is a gap between telling a child to be kind and telling them to stand up for themselves. At five, they cannot hold both at once.
A parent asked us how to teach a young child to speak up when someone is treating them badly, without teaching them to fight.
Our Principal's answer.

Three. Two. One.
Then a noise, then a very small rocket going very high, then about two hundred students shouting at once.
Our model rocket launch went up in front of Salamah Stadium. Fins, fuel, angle, weight. All of it decided before the button was pressed, all of it settled in about four seconds of flight.
That is the part we want them to remember. You do the thinking first. Then you find out if you were right.

As part of Book Week they were paired with Reception and Year 1 as Reading Buddies, bringing in books they loved when they were small and reading them out loud to someone hearing them for the first time.
The younger ones got a story. The older ones got a lesson in patience that no classroom has ever managed to teach.

Year 10 subject selection is coming. Before our students choose, we want them to understand themselves.

Last Thursday, Dr Zuby Osman walked our Year 10s through their individual Enneagram results. Strengths, motivations, and practical strategies for what comes next.

Subject selection is the first decision our students make that narrows what comes after it.

SACE subjects shape university entry, and university entry shapes career. We run this session every year at exactly this point so that choice is made from self-knowledge.

A paper plane, folded small enough to matter and fast enough to win.

That was Thursday. Before it came bubble labs on the courts, crystals growing quietly in classrooms all week, and a paper chain long enough to cover the whole school.

Science Week at Iqra ran on questions. Why does that happen. What if we tried it this way. Can we make it smaller.

Our students walked the Muslim Scientist Trail and read about people who asked the same kind of questions a thousand years ago, and who understood that studying creation is a way of knowing the Creator.

Friday we saw where all of it led. The Seeds of Science showcase filled the hall with student projects, and the Oliphant Award display gave every year group a turn to see what their peers had built.

Jazakum Allahu khayran to our science team, our student volunteers, and every teacher.

One question. A lot of different answers. We asked our students which ayah means the most to them.
