Saint Ignatius' College - New Principal Announcement

Shaping the future at Ignatius

Today we are delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs Lauren Brooks as the new Principal of Saint Ignatius’ College commencing in 2024.

Lauren will begin at the College in October, working alongside Barbara Watkins, who will continue to lead the College as Principal until the end of the year. As Principal and CEO, Lauren will also work with our well-respected Rector, Fr Peter Hosking SJ, and she looks forward to engaging with the Ignatian charism and Jesuit tradition that has been shaped at the College.

Lauren joins the Saint Ignatius’ College community from Pedare Christian College, where she is the Deputy Principal – Teaching and Learning (R-12). She brings a wealth of experience across R-12 contexts, with executive leadership roles in junior, middle and senior schools in South Australia and the Northern Territory.

As a Deputy Principal and Head of School, she has delivered innovative and future-focused programs resulting in higher student engagement, enrolments and academic outcomes. She is a strong advocate for the professional development of staff, leading through relationships built on trust and underpinned by Christian values.

Along with her husband, Stephen and two children, Arabella and Bill, Lauren is originally from Adelaide. She holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Sydney, Master of Educational Leadership from the Australian Catholic University and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

We look forward to welcoming Lauren into the Ignatian community in Term 4 and to the future growth of the College under her leadership.

A Focus on the Future - New Principal Announcement

Today we announce the new College Principal following Peter Coffey’s retirement at the end of 2022. Highly respected Catholic schools’ leader, Barbara Watkins, has been appointed as our interim Principal for 2023.

Barbara will work alongside our long serving Rector, Fr Peter Hosking SJ, in a continuation of the College’s contemporary collaborative leadership model.

Ms Watkins was an outstanding Principal at Loreto Normanhurst in Sydney for 10 years, before becoming the Director of System Performance at Sydney Catholic Schools. Through the Association of Independent Schools, she has mentored new Principals in NSW, along with executive leaders in the business community.

She is well versed in the Jesuit ethos and Ignatian pedagogy. Prior to Loreto Normanhurst, she held various roles at the Jesuit school of Saint Aloysius’ College, Milsons Point Sydney.

Ms Watkins will be our first female Principal at the College. We are delighted to have someone with Barbara’s extraordinary range of experiences, depth of knowledge, and breadth of vision to guide us in our transition to our new Principal in 2024 and beyond.
Barbara will commence during Term Four 2022 to ensure a smooth transition from Peter Coffey as retiring Principal.

Happy Feast of Saint Ignatius Loyola.

Today we celebrate the Feast of Saint Ignatius, the founder of the Jesuits. This year is a special occasion as we conclude the Ignatian Year, which ran from May 2021 commemorating the 500th anniversary of his conversion and including the 400th anniversary of his Canonisation in March 2022. Ignatius of Loyola is one of the most influential figures in the Catholic Church. A mystic and a master of the practical, his Spiritual Exercises and Constitutions have helped many to “find God in all things” and act “for the greater glory of God.”

We sincerely hope that you and your families were able to enjoy festive celebrations and a happy start to the New Year without too much disruption due to ongoing COVID-19 limitations.
After careful consideration the committee has decided to postpone the February and August events. More details regarding these two events will be communicated to you closer to the time.
The new dates are as follows:
