We are so pleased to announce that Dr Liz Reed from the School of Biological Sciences has been named a Superstar of STEM by Science & Technology Australia.

Superstars of STEM provides media training, mentoring and networking for women and non-binary STEM experts. The initiative builds crucial leadership and communication skills to grow careers.

Over the years, Superstars have also inspired more than 80,000 high school students through visits and speeches to around 480 Australian schools.

Liz is a vertebrate palaeontologist who uses evidence from fossil deposits in caves to reconstruct past biodiversity. Caves accumulate a wealth of materials that tell us about past environments, including a rich fossil record of vertebrate faunas. By studying how animal and plant communities responded to changes in climate and environment in the past, Liz can assess how current and future change will impact the conservation of Australia's threatened species and habitats. Much of her research centres on the World Heritage Naracoorte Caves.

Congratulations Liz!

We are excited to announce the winner of our Microbrewery Label Competition! Thank you to everyone who entered the competition – it was great to see entries from all faculties!

🥇 FIRST: Tiahna Ludborzs
🥈 SECOND: Eleanor Elferink
🥉 THIRD: Chentong Wang

Tianha’s winning design will be printed on cans of beer produced by The University of Adelaide’s microbrewery.

Their design was chosen as it represents innovation and achievements made by the University over the years, from the infamous stobie poles that line our streets to the development of WiFi.

Tiahna says: "I have decided to focus on Adelaide's innovative spirit by highlighting some of the University (5 Nobel Prizes!), South Australia, and Australia at large's brilliant inventions. The line art style is a fun homage to invention design blueprints with a colourful twist reminiscent of the Uni's branding. I have also added nods to Waite campus and SA's agricultural history by embellishing with hops and barley."

Well done, Tiahna!
