Adelaide University Chess Club We are a club passionate and dedicated towards the great game of chess. https://discord.gg/gtrzHCyANy We welcome any enquires or expressions of interest.

The Adelaide University Chess Club, or UofAChess for short, has been around in its new form since 2009 (and in another, lapsed form for decades), and is host to a fun atmosphere of recreational games of chess and go. Our club is open to players of any ability, although we generally have players ranging from beginners to a moderate level. You do not even need to be an Adelaide Uni student, staff me

mber or affiliated with Adelaide Uni in any way! We have meetings on various weekdays from 12-5pm in the Hub. Our mission for 2016 is to provide an informal and fun atmosphere for people to enjoy chess at the University of Adelaide.

Hi everyone,

I'm Charles from the Adelaide University Chess Club. Just have a quick announcement regarding casual chess next week and interclub registrations.

Casual Chess:
Now that graduations have finished, casual chess will be back in the normal location (main walkway of Hub Central) every Monday and Friday afternoon.

We have also begun including Chinese chess (象棋) as part of regular casual chess, hosted by the Australian national Chinese chess champion Ren (Alex) Min! Due to difficulties getting Chinese chess boards in Australia, there is sadly only one board for now. The trial for Chinese chess was a huge success last Friday, with players of all levels coming to learn how to play or challenge the champion.

Interclub Registrations:
Quick reminder that interclub registrations will close Wednesday, 8th March. If you're an experienced competition player or a casual player who wants to take their chess to the next level, I highly recommend playing in a team. Both full team members as well as reserves are highly appreciated.

In this event, teams of 4 will be split into A and B grade divisions, playing 1 round of classical chess each Tuesday night 7:00pm from 21st April to 30th June. Interclub is a pretty chill tournament and definitely a great introduction to the competitive chess scene. It is also an excellent chance to build relationships within a team. If you're eager to join a team as a full time player or reserve, please email me your interest. For more information, send me an email or go to the official interclub page https://sachess.org.au/event/interclub-teams-all-grades-2026/.

Hello everyone, Michael here (Club Champs tournament arbiter).

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow for a fun day of chess at the 2026 Adelaide Uni Club Championship! This post has a few notes for tomorrow, so please give the following a read if you intend on playing in the tournament:

1) The weather forecast is looking quite wild, so take care with coming into the city/Chess Centre. At this stage we are still running the event, as we have assessed that the inclement weather should not affect the playing venue. If there are any changes, then we will communicate them to let you know.

2) With a very large number of entries (50+), we are delighted to have a large tournament prize pool. This is supported by generous sponsorships from the Hosworth Foundation, and from Chess Life Academy, who are supporting our 1st Place and Best Junior prizes respectively. Other prizes will include rating bracket prizes (including Best Unrated Player), so there is plenty for players of all levels!

3) This post include a schedule for the day (see attached photo - updated as of 6pm). Please note that those who have not already registered have a strict cut-off time of 12:45pm to enter the tournament. Late entries will be unable to play in Round 1. This schedule is an approximation, and times may be subject to mild variation on the day dependent on any exigencies arising.

4) If you have any questions, please feel free to respond here, or email [email protected], by 9am March 1, and we will endeavour to reply prior to the tournament commencing.

Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

***Casual Chess Semester 2 Update***

Casual chess is back and will be consistent for the rest of the semester (including today!)

Relatedly, we have two small updates:

Update 1: Casual chess will run every Thursday from 3pm-6pm at Level 4 Hub Central (just below the large tv screen)

Specifically, we will be set-up for casual chess every Thursday from now until Thursday November 6 (SWOTVAC). The one exception is Thursday September 25, as the Hub is being used as part of Graduations.

Update 2: We want you to bring friends/newer players! As part of our set-up this semester, we will have dedicated boards + a dedicated club member from 3pm-5pm to help teach people how to play, as well as teach general strategy. We can cover the very basics (how does the horsie move) up to broader strategy/ideas around making plans (think abilities up to about 1200 by online rating)

So, if you have any friends/know anyone who has been hesitant to come along, then we want to help them become more comfortable and confident in playing chess! We have a friendly approach to getting people to enjoy the game we all love already, and so we hope to see lots of new faces!
