At 15, Vanessa Sadler dreamed of becoming a psychologist. Life took her in other directions: work, family, raising children, and countless competing responsibilities.

But that dream never disappeared and, at 41, amid COVID and home-schooling, she returned to study.

Today, with support from UNE’s Sole Parents and Carers Country Scholarship, Vanessa is pursuing that goal while raising two teenage boys on her own.

“My studies have been a big leap of faith ... This UNE scholarship has provided that soft landing for me.”

For Bachelor of Special and Inclusive Education student Jane Clifford, who lives in regional Victoria, the scholarship has enabled her to buy important teaching resources while also meeting household expenses.

“As a single parent to a child with autism, I never put my needs first. Even working part-time has proven difficult. But my studies are a way to set myself up for a sustainable future career – one in which I can help children live better lives."

From triple zero to the rule of law, Travis Wishart has seen people at their most vulnerable and now wants to help shape the systems that are meant to protect them. After eight years on the road as a NSW Ambulance paramedic, a life-threatening cancer diagnosis and completing three degrees, the 33 year old has just stepped into his first legal role with the NSW Government. 🎓🚑⚖️

In our latest alumni story, Travis reflects on frontline work during bushfires, COVID and major incidents, his Honours thesis on the Robodebt scheme, and how studying law at UNE helped him turn lived crisis into a career in public-interest law.

Following our rollout announcement earlier this year, we’ve been checking in with students on how they're actually using UNE’s custom AI workspace, Madgwick Student.

From organising study plans and practising professional communication, to breaking down complex concepts and identifying gaps in understanding, students are using Madgwick Student as a powerful support tool ...
.. all within a free, secure, university-managed workspace that gives students access to a range of AI tools, enables them to build their own team of AI assistants, and supports study in preparation for an AI-enabled workplace.

ICYMI, the University of New England has again received five stars for Overall Experience in the latest Good Universities Guide – the 20th consecutive year this rating has recognised our supportive and adaptable learning environment.

The rating is student-driven - thank you to all who've given us this incredible feedback over the years!

UNE is the country's only public university to have achieved this rating annually across two decades of rankings by the Guide.

UNE also was awarded five stars for its performance in the Social Equity, Undergraduate Full-Time Employment, and Undergraduate Starting Salary categories.

UNE updated the Academic Integrity Module (AIM) earlier in the year. We ask all students who have not already completed the new AIM in T1/2025 to re-take the module.

If you are planning on enrolling in T2, please complete the new AIM before the start of trimester to receive the updated AIM badge to access your T2 assignments.

This weekend, one of UNE's major systems will be undergoing an upgrade, which may impact several other services.
From 4:00 pm Friday 23rd May to approximately 9:00 am Monday 26th May, the following systems will be offline:
• myUNE
• Online Enrolment (OLE)

MyLearn will remain available and can be accessed directly via this link: https://mylearn.une.edu.au/ (mylearn.une.edu.au).
We recommend bookmarking the direct link above and downloading any materials (such as lectures, readings, and PowerPoints) you may need over the weekend, just to be prepared.
