Remember the people who helped you find your feet after uni - who offered advice, gave you confidence or simply believed in you?

Now, UNE alumni have the opportunity to be that person for someone else.

Six months into UNE's alumni mentoring program, people are sharing how much they've gained from the experience - on both sides.

Mentee Matt Elsley says it has been "really valuable" picking the brains of his mentor, Jeremy Fewtrell (both pictured).

And mentor Tess Meehan describes her mentoring relationship as "collegial and inspirational".

We're now inviting more UNE graduates to join our Alumni Ambassador Program and help us make more of these valuable connections.

When Ethan Webster first walked through the doors of UNE Taree, he was running a lawn-mowing business and raising his children.

Now, he’s also completing UNE Foundation Program units and preparing to study counselling in 2027 - with his family firmly in mind.

"I hope I’m showing my kids that it's never too late, that they can go on to extra studies after they finish school," he says.

Ethan now visits UNE Taree about three times a week to work on his UNE units.

"The process has been quite eye-opening, but it has shown me that part-time study and work and parenting is achievable. It all started with a conversation with one of the UNE staff, who talked me through the study options."

It began in 2001 as a one-room shop with three computers and unreliable dial-up Internet.

Twenty-five years, countless degrees, several floods and a couple of bushfires later, the UNE Taree Study Centre has been there through it all.

Today, staff support more than 200 current UNE online students.

“When students lack other support, we become their cheer squad,” says Project Coordinator Kathryn Martin.
