The Australia and Japan Cyber Security Workshop 2023 concluded on the 10th of May at the Star Hotel in Gold Coast. This workshop is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade via the Australia-Japan Foundation grant. The primary objective of the workshop was to promote greater diversity in cyber security and share game-changing interdisciplinary research between Australia and Japan to address complex cyber security challenges, engage researchers, industry experts and students. Building long-term research collaboration and knowledge sharing for effective awareness of cyber security education and industry collaboration to better identify skills gaps in the workforce and priority challenges requiring immediate solutions for industry.

Throughout the workshop, there were great discussions and insights shared by both the panelists and the audience, undeniably promoting and advancing the cyber security sector diversity and bilateral interdisciplinary research to the next level. We extend a big THANK YOU to all the attendees who participated in this workshop, both online and in person. We would also like to express our appreciation to our workshop partners: DFAT-AJF, AusCERT, BLUE Inc., and JCIC. Two Cyber Security Scholarships will be open from 1 July and close on 20 August for third-year UQ Bachelor of Computer Science students majoring in Cyber Security and UQ students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Cyber Security, respectively.

The Scholarships were established through a special grant of the State of Queensland acting through the Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy. More information can be found here:

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the training team from Korea University led by Prof. Huy Kang Kim, on topics of Machine Learning based Intrusion Detection System for in-vehicle network, and in-vehicle infotainment system hacking. We are grateful for the opportunity to have hosted such a valuable four-day workshop in UQ Cyber lab, which undoubtedly enhanced our in-person and online participants' cybersecurity skills and professional development. We look forward to collaborating with Prof. Huy Kang Kim and his team in the future on various cybersecurity-related domains to strengthen the interaction, communication, and collaboration between The University of Queensland and Korea University. It is great to see experts from Korean University, led by Prof. Huy Kang Kim showing up in ASOC lab for a four-day cybersecurity training on 8th, 9th, 11th and 12th of May. The training schedule covers from Machine Learning based Intrusion Detection System for in-vehicle network to in-vehicle infotainment system hacking (focused on Automotive Grade Linux OS). The first two days of training have just ended today. Thanks in-person and online participants for joining the training, looking forward to the remaining training which will be continued on 11th of May.
