On Thursday 23 July, Griffith Law School welcomed alumni, students and members of the legal profession to the Banco Court for our annual Meet the Profession event. Guests heard from distinguished alumna Libby McKillop, Partner at Ashurst Perkins Coie, who reflected on her journey from law student to partner and shared valuable insights and practical advice with our students. The energy continued at the networking reception, where students enthusiastically engaged with legal practitioners, making the most of the opportunity to learn about a wide range of legal careers and professional pathways.

Congratulations to Griffith Law student Austin Kendall Mann on being named a finalist in the Queensland Law Society 2026 Excellence in Law Awards.

Austin has been recognised in the First Nations Student Award category.

Congratulations, Austin, and best of luck at the Awards Gala in August!

The winners will be named at the Excellence in Law Awards Gala on Saturday 22 August at The Star Brisbane.

On Monday 16 June, we were delighted to celebrate the announcement of the 2026 First Nations Excellence in Law Award recipient, Brianna Lane. The event was generously hosted by Mallesons and attended by the scholarship’s founders, Griffith Law School alumni Mr Joshua Creamer and the Honourable Kara Cook MP.
Bri is the fifth outstanding Griffith Law School student to receive this scholarship, and she expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to connect with previous recipients and the generous supporters who make the award possible.
The scholarship provides financial assistance, mentoring, and access to a valued network of supporters—opportunities that will significantly enrich Bri’s experience during her studies and as she embarks on her legal career.

As part of the Creative Arts Open Day on Sunday 17 May, Griffith Law School participated in a Treasury “pop-up” event, engaging with students interested in studying Law at our new CBD campus next year.

Kirsty Paynter and Sarah Joseph staffed the booth, speaking with many enthusiastic prospective students, while Dean Therese Wilson and GLS student Nalani Farrell delivered an information session to an audience of around 50 prospective students and their parents.

There was much excitement amongst those attending about studying Law in the CBD from next year!

We are very proud of our Vis moot team—Grace Farmer, Tiffany Humble, Ken Stringer and Mahesh Rajamohan. Despite one team member being unable to attend in Vienna for personal reasons, the team showed remarkable resilience and generosity: one member carried an increased load in both the Budapest pre‑moot and Vienna rounds, while the absent member remained closely involved, offering enthusiastic support from afar. Following four outstanding general round moots demonstrating exceptional legal knowledge and advocacy, the team unfortunately missed out on being among the top 64 ( out of 384) finalists. They met this with grace and positivity, warmly supporting fellow Australian teams from Bond, UQ and UNSW and continuing to learn by attending final round moots. Each has described the experience as wonderful and life‑changing.
