🌟 2026 Carolyn D. Baker Annual Memorial Lecture 🌟

Last Friday evening, 18 September, the School of Education was delighted to host the annual Carolyn D. Baker Memorial Lecture.

We had a wonderful turnout for an engaging lecture by Professor Martin Mills, who presented “Schooling in a Volatile, Unpredictable, Complex, Ambiguous (VUCA) World: A Set of Provocations.”

We were also delighted to present the 2026 Carolyn D. Baker Award to Amalia Sari. 🎓✨

Congratulations to Amalia on this well-deserved achievement, and thank you to everyone who joined us for such a special evening celebrating Carolyn’s legacy and the ongoing contribution of education research.

🎓 Congratulations to our School of Education Graduates!

Graduation is always a special time of year, and yesterday it was a joy to celebrate with 158 of our most recent graduates.

Valedictorian Aishya Saleh who graduated with a Master of Educational Studies delivered a touching and inspirational address: "𝘐𝘯 𝘢 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘸𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. Before graduation, Aishya caught up with our Head of School Professor Robin Shields to reflect on her time at UQ, share her excitement about reaching this milestone, and offer words of encouragement to current and future students. Aishya's passion, dedication, and commitment to supporting others have made a lasting impact on our school community.

🏐 Meet Chelsea O’Neill

Hailing from regional Queensland, netballer Chelsea O’Neill learned early that chasing sporting dreams often means going the extra mile, sometimes literally.

Now studying Primary Education at The University of Queensland, Chelsea is balancing elite netball, university study and work with the support of the UQ Firebirds Scholarship.

We’re proud to share Chelsea’s story and celebrate the dedication, resilience and ambition of students pursuing their goals both on and off the court. 💙
