Brisbane School of Theology

Brisbane School of Theology What beliefs motivate and guide us? So there are a number of core Christian truths that we teach with great passion and live by with conviction.

Brisbane School of Theology is an interdenominational Bible college in Queensland, equipping Christians to deeply understand the Bible and serve Christ with wisdom, humility, and maturity. Brisbane School of Theology offers high quality, Bible-centred theological training in a diverse and supportive community, shaping the whole person for God’s purposes. Aiming for more than simply growing student

s’ knowledge of theology, BST is developing passionate, capable disciples who use what they know about God’s word to serve him in the church and the world. We’re an evangelical college, which means that our beliefs and our lives are entirely shaped by the evangel - literally, the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are also many secondary issues that aren’t at the centre of the gospel, and in those areas we think it’s important to expose our students to different viewpoints and to encourage intelligent and prayerful reflection. We hope this reflection will also bring greater understanding and appreciation of the theological and historical roots of students’ own denominational heritage. However, when it comes to core Christian beliefs, there are the things that everyone in the BST community agrees on and lives in the light of (click on to find out more...). http://bst.qld.edu.au/identity

Churches want to care for children faithfully.

Yet safeguarding often raises difficult questions about awareness, communication, and responsibility, especially when caring for children with disabilities who may face additional vulnerability.

The BST Safeguarding Children Conference exists to help churches think carefully about these realities and respond with wisdom.

Through keynote sessions, electives, and practical discussion, the conference will equip ministry leaders with clearer understanding and practical tools for safeguarding.

Across Asia and within Asian diaspora communities, the church is vibrant and growing.

Yet ministry in these contexts often raises questions that have till now received little attention in western theological conversations.

The Centre for Asian Christianity exists to support churches, leaders, and scholars to create resources, training, and conversations that speak to these realities.

On 7 May, we are hosting a live online event sharing stories from the past year and looking ahead to the work still to come.

The cross was not the end of the story.

On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead.

Death was defeated.
Sin was overcome.
New life began.

The resurrection is the centre of the Christian hope.

Because Christ lives, we know that sin does not have the final word, suffering does not have the final word, and death does not have the final word.

“Why do you seek the living among the dead?
He is not here, but has risen.”
— Luke 24:5–6

Between the cross and the resurrection
there was a day of silence.

The disciples waited.
Grief lingered.
Hope seemed buried.

But even when it looked like the story was over,
God was not finished.

Sometimes faith lives in that space...
trusting God when the ending has not yet been revealed.

Today we remember the cross.

The moment where Christ bore the weight of sin and accomplished our redemption.

On the cross, Jesus did what we could never do for ourselves.

The work is finished.
The debt is paid.
The way to God is through Jesus.

“But he was pierced for our transgressions…
and by his wounds we are healed.”
— Isaiah 53:5

“The only thing stopping me… was fear.”

Hannah thought her path was clear: finish her music degree, complete a Master of Teaching, and become a full-time teacher.

But just before starting her masters, something didn’t feel right.

After prayer, conversations, and a lot of wrestling, she made a big decision to step away from the plan she had always expected.

Around the same time, she began leading youth at her church, and slowly God began opening unexpected doors.

Conversations about Bible college kept appearing.
Opportunities kept surfacing.

An open day here.
An offhand conversation there.
Random encounters with BST lecturers.
Again and again, the same question kept appearing.
Could this be the next step?

Eventually Hannah realised the only real obstacle left was fear of the unknown.
So, she chose to trust God and enrolled at BST.

Now she’s studying theology while continuing to disciple young people in her church.

She still doesn’t know exactly where God will lead next.
But she knows this step was the right one.

If you’ve ever wondered whether Bible college might be part of your story, Hannah has one encouragement:

“Pray about it. And don’t be afraid to take a step of faith.”

If you’re curious about studying theology, ministry, or simply going deeper in God’s Word, our Open Events in May are a great place to start.

Come experience the BST community, sit in on a class, and ask your questions.

In chapel yesterday, we had the privilege of hearing from Tim Bengston, State Director for the Christian Community Churches of Queensland.

We also took part in an open worship session. An Open Brethren practice rooted in the priesthood of all believers, where we gather humbly to worship God alongside our peers. Together, we prayed, read Scripture, and shared reflections that pointed us to Jesus and the cross.

This is one of the blessings of being part of an interdenominational Bible college. We get the opportunity to experience the richness of faithful Christian traditions throughout history.

If you’re wanting to spend significant time in God’s Word, grow in Christian community, and explore your next step in ministry, we invite you to BST Open Day on May 19.

At Open Day you'll become a student for the day: attend lectures, join us in chapel worship, and share a meal with the community as you consider whether Bible college is your next step.

Where is the church growing today?

Across Asia and the Asian Diaspora, millions of Christians are worshipping, serving, and leading in rapidly changing cultural and social contexts.

But many churches and ministry leaders face challenges that western resources rarely address. Questions of language, migration, leadership, and theological training shape everyday ministry.

The Centre for Asian Christianity works alongside churches and leaders in this space through partnerships, teaching, and resource development.

On 7 May, we will share stories from this work during the CAC Fundraising Live Stream.

Join us online to hear what has been happening over the past year and what lies ahead.

We are looking for someone with strong leadership experience, financial expertise, and a genuine commitment to the mission of theological education.

If you believe your skills and experience could serve the life of the college, we would love to hear from you.

Meet Hannah and Spencer, two of our graduating students this year.

During their time at Brisbane School of Theology, both were shaped in different ways through their study.

For Spencer, exploring the sweep of Scripture, from creation in Genesis to the growth of the church in Acts, deepened his appreciation for God’s mercy and faithfulness throughout salvation history.

For Hannah, the learning community stood out. Through class discussions, shared meals and the example of faithful lecturers, she experienced theology studied with both academic rigour and deep faith.

Spencer and Hannah have both completed a Graduate Diploma of Divinity.

Although they are graduating this week, their preparation for ministry continues at BST.

Spencer will begin a Master of Divinity, while Hannah will undertake a Master of Theological Studies part-time.

Together they are preparing for long-term mission, with a hope of serving in Japan and planting churches among rural communities.

Please pray for Hannah and Spencer as they continue preparing for this calling.
