Since its founding in 1914, The Women’s College has provided a supportive living and learning community for young women who relocate to Brisbane to undertake tertiary studies at their chosen university. As a residential college, The Women’s College within The University of Queensland creates an inclusive and supportive community that enables our students to discover their potential, build confidence and leadership skills, and form connections for life.

This End-of-Financial Year, we're sharing the story of Lily, whose Women’s College experience has been made possible through the support of our generous donor community.

A bursary did more than provide financial assistance. It opened the door to friendships, leadership opportunities, academic success, and a community where she truly belongs.

Today, almost one in three students at The Women's College relies on a bursary or scholarship to access the opportunities that College life provides.

🎥 Watch Lily's story and see the impact of your support.

Together, we can open doors for more young women.

Our National Reconciliation Week Formal Dinner was an inspiring evening of learning, reflection, and meaningful conversation.

We were honoured to welcome Aunty Lorraine Hatton OAM as our distinguished guest speaker. A proud First Nations woman and highly respected leader, Aunty Lorraine shared powerful stories from her 21 years of service in the Australian Regular Army, including peacekeeping, humanitarian, and war service operations across Australia and overseas.

Students were captivated by her reflections on leadership, resilience, and service, as well as her ongoing contributions as a Board and Council Member for organisations including the Australian War Memorial, Queensland Veterans Council and University of Southern Queensland Council.

Aunty Lorraine also encouraged us to reflect on this year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, "All In", challenging us all to play an active role in advancing reconciliation through understanding, respect, and action.

This End-of-Financial Year, we invite you to support the future of The Women’s College by participating in the Council Room Courtyard Naming Opportunity as part of our Giving Appeal.

A collaboration between the College and Student Club, the courtyard landscape renovation will create an inviting and functional outdoor space where students can gather, study, build friendships and enjoy College life in a refreshed setting. Whether you choose to honour your own College experience, recognise a family connection, or simply demonstrate your support for future generations of students, your plaque will become a permanent part of this special space.

To support this project, alumnae, families, students, and friends of the College are invited to secure a personalised plaque with a tax-deductible donation of $250 (link in comments).

📸 The Council Room Courtyard has been a quiet place for students to use across the years. With the planned renovation, the College will create an inviting and functional outdoor space for students to use.

In recognition of National Volunteer Week last week (18 – 24 May), we thank the incredible alumnae, Council Members, Network Ambassadors, mentors, guest speakers, and supporters who generously give their time, expertise, and encouragement to support our students.

Whether mentoring through the Women’s Alumnae Mentoring (WAM) Program, sharing career insights at Women’s Industry Night, or inspiring students through leadership and networking opportunities, our volunteers help shape the next generation of women leaders.

Their contribution extends far beyond volunteering hours – they foster confidence, connection, belonging and opportunity within our College community.

Thank you to every member of our volunteer community for the meaningful role you play in empowering Women’s students and strengthening lifelong connections across generations of Woozas.
