Rotary Peace Centre at The University of Queensland The Rotary Fellowships are fully funded to pay fees, living and travel expenses and a three month Applied Field Experience.

One of five Rotary Peace Centres around the world, our Rotary Peace Centre at UQ offers a world-leading Masters degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, fully funded by the Rotary Peace Fellowship programme. The University of Queensland's Rotary Program for International Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution is part of a global program to advance research, teaching, practical training and knowledg

e on issues of international relations, conflict resolution and peace-building. It offers a tailored Master's Degree in International Studies, aimed at potential world and community leaders, designed to have a practical effect on addressing international and regional conflicts. The Rotary Foundation’s decision to establish this unique program at The University of Queensland is recognition of the outstanding reputation of the Masters of International Studies programs within the School of Political Science and International Studies. The Centre is one of only six worldwide, the others are housed at:

International Christian University, Tokyo Japan,
University of Bradford, West Yorkshire England
Uppsala University, Uppsala Sweden
Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand (Professional Development Centre)

Each year the Rotary Peace Fellows commence an 18-month program of study at the School. Fellows are selected from countries and cultures around the globe based on their potential as leaders in government, business, education, media and other professional areas. Toward the end of their studies the Fellows, with support from school staff, will host a full day seminar for Rotarians and the wider student community. This program,continues to deliver innovative and cutting-edge teaching and research in these fields. In recognition of its achievements, the UQ Rotary Centre received an award for its contribution to ‘Internationalization’ from the Queensland Education and Training Industry in 2007.

It was a wonderful evening at Rotary Beenleigh, where Manuela (one of our Class 24 Rotary Peace Centers fellows) shared her inspiring story of growing up in Colombia, her journey to becoming a Rotary Peace Fellow, her achievements so far, and her experiences in Australia. 🌎🕊️

It was a wonderful opportunity for Rotarians and Youth Exchange students to hear her story and learn from her journey.

RPFAA MENA Region Spotlight
We are proud to spotlight Dr. Humaira Shafi, a distinguished member of the Rotary Peace Fellowship Alumni Association’s MENA Region, whose work continues to advance peace education, conflict transformation, and international security.
Dr. Shafi serves as a faculty member at the Centre for International Peace and Stability (CIPS), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), where she teaches and conducts research in peace and conflict studies.
Beyond her academic role, she coordinates national and international training programs, conferences, and outreach initiatives focused on peacebuilding, mediation, and global security. Her dedication to strengthening knowledge, building capacity, and promoting constructive dialogue reflects the values and mission of the Rotary Peace Fellowship community.

✨ Semester 02 is officially underway for the RPF Class 24 cohort! ✨

The cohort welcomed the new semester with a gathering to celebrate Htwe’s birthday, which also provided an opportunity for the fellows to reconnect and continue their planning and preparations for the upcoming Annual Seminar next March. 🌏🤝
The birthday celebrations continued throughout July and August, with the cohort also celebrating their July and August-born fellows, Igor, Amanda, and Becca. 🎂🥳

It’s wonderful to see the Class 24 fellows continuing to build connections, celebrate one another, and work together towards their upcoming Annual Seminar.

Wishing the RPF Class 24 cohort a meaningful and inspiring Semester 02 filled with learning, collaboration, and many more memorable moments! 🌿✨

As part of their Rotary experience beyond the classroom, Praveen (Class 23), Sajani (Class 24), and Becca (Class 24) attended the Rotary Club of Paddington Changeover Ceremony, joining Rotarians in celebrating leadership, fellowship, and the beginning of a new Rotary year.

A wonderful evening of meaningful conversations, new connections, and Rotary spirit. Wishing the Rotary Club of Paddington every success for the year ahead.

On July 9, Class 24 Fellow Becca was invited to speak to Rotary Club of Toowoomba East. The day began by enjoying the views from the Great Dividing Range at Picnic Point. Then the club members welcomed Becca with singing and club traditions. During the meeting Becca presented to the club about the Rotary Peace Fellowship, and the global experiences that brought Becca to apply and be accepted as a peace fellow here at UQ.

As a thank you the Rotary Club made a donation in honour of Becca to further health research.

Thank you to Rotary Toowoomba East for hosting Becca. We hope to continue the connection between UQ and Toowoomba and hope to see you join us in the seminar next March.

The Canberra Study Tour was about far more than learning from institutions, experts, and leaders. Between the visits, presentations, and discussions, the Class 24 Peace Fellows also shared countless laughs, unforgettable adventures, and moments of genuine connection that will be cherished for years to come.

Because sometimes, the strongest foundations for peace are built not only in meeting rooms, but in the friendships, shared stories, and joyful memories created along the way. 💙🌏
