Sunbury is growing fast - and local access to skills and training has never been more important.

After 25 years as a registered nurse, Renee wanted to broaden her career and support young people exploring futures in healthcare.

She completed Kangan Institute's Certificate IV in Training and Assessment locally through Free TAFE, making study possible while balancing work and family.

Today, she's teaching secondary students working towards a Certificate III in Allied Health Services, helping them build confidence and take their first steps into the sector.

Renee's story shows how local training can open doors for people of all ages, and how skills can strengthen the community around them.

With a new Sunbury campus opening in 2028, even more residents will be able to study close to home.

Melton, your new campus is taking shape 👀

Minister Colin Brooks MP revealed the new campus designs today while joined by Steve McGhie MP our industry and community partners.

Set to open at Ferris Road, Cobblebank, the $55 million campus will open mid-2028 and deliver industry-aligned training in construction, trades, digital technology, clean energy and foundation programs, supporting around 800 students each year.

Designed by Architectus and funded by the Victorian Government, our Melton campus will be future‑focused for one of Victoria’s fastest‑growing regions — and a big step toward more local training and local jobs.

A beautiful new First Nations artwork is now welcoming the community to our future Hume Tech School at Broadmeadows Campus.

Seven Sisters – Karatgurk, created by Wurundjeri Woi‑wurrung Elder Aunty Kim Wandin and artist Chris Joy, brings together bronze, glass and sculptural digging sticks to share an ancient story of knowledge, technology and women’s leadership.

When students arrive at Hume Tech School, this will be one of the first things they see - helping create a strong sense of belonging and connection to place.

The artwork builds on our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan, which guides how we strengthen relationships, show respect and create culturally safe learning environments for First Nations students, staff and communities.

Hume Tech School is in its final stages of construction and will open in Term 3, 2026, supporting students from all 28 secondary schools in the Hume municipality with hands‑on STEM learning and future‑focused pathways.

As electric and hybrid vehicles become part of everyday life, Victoria needs technicians with the skills to service high-voltage systems safely and confidently.

Wyatt saw that shift early, completing four automotive qualifications over nine years - building the EV-ready capability his family business needed to stay ahead of industry change.

Those skills are already paying off.

Wyatt's family business is expanding, with a brand-new workshop underway to meet the growing demand and support the wider community.

His experience reflects a broader trend. The latest Employment Outcomes Survey for Victorian TAFE Learners shows 9 in 1 students achieve their employment goals, including those who use further training to grow or future-proof a business.

This is how Kangan Institute helps shape the workforce Victoria will rely on as EV and hybrid demand grows.

Our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan sets out how we turn that commitment into action by strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and creating a culturally safe environment for our First Nations staff, students and communities.

Reconciliation isn’t separate from our day-to-day work, it needs to be part of how we show up every day.

🏆 Congratulations to the Winner of the 2026 Kangan Institute Inspirational TAFE Student Award, Jacinta (Rosie) Tu!

Jacinta (Rosie) Tu of Knoxfield is a determined student and emerging entrepreneur. She is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Business (Management and Leadership) and has completed Certificates III and IV in Fitness and a Certificate IV in Community Services. Having grown up in out-of-home care and overcoming trauma, homelessness, and mental health challenges, Rosie has shown remarkable resilience. She founded Phase Forward Coaching, delivering holistic fitness and wellbeing programs. She has also volunteered at the Great Ocean Road Running Festival and received an Excellence Award for her achievements.
