unnawal Centre has been functioning as the focal point for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying at the University of Canberra since 1985. We welcome all our UC Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Student and Staff to visit our Centre, connect with our other Students and Staff and be part of making our vision a reality. Our Vision:
The UC Ngunnawal Centre recognises the great works and service undertaken by our past Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and staff, and want to continue to build on that great platform. We aspire towards the Ngunnawal Centre being a place where academic excellence, leadership, resilience, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and student and staff wellbeing, are at forefront of everything that we do. We will empower our students and staff to be independent, critical and analytical thinkers, and assist them to plan, set and achieve their goals. We hope to inspire our students to reach their potential because we believe in them. Our students will have access to a wealth of professional development opportunities, mentor and peer-support programs, and learning support, that will enable students to achieving academic excellence and career goals that positively affect our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Our Services include:
• Study support and leadership development services, such as workshops, online resources, events and one-on-one guidance sessions
• Support with applications for financial assistance, like the UC Commonwealth Scholarship, or other UC scholarships and bursaries
• Free tuition for undergraduate students via the Ngunnawal Centre Tutoring Program
• Guidance in navigating the CareerTrackers Indigenous Internship Program and referring to UC Careers for employment and Work Integrated Learning opportunities
• Confidential emotional and cultural support through UC's elder-in-residence
• Making Indigenous culture more visible on campus through events and university-wide celebrations
• Providing a student study space complete with access to PCs and Macs, free printing facilities and a kitchen. Additionally access to consultation room and staff meeting room when available
